Bio
Sam Blackshear is a Co-Founder and former CTO of Mysten Labs, and the principal creator of the Move programming language. As of August 2026 he publicly announced he was leaving Mysten Labs to join Anthropic for defensive-security research.
Blackshear developed Move while working on Meta's Libra/Diem blockchain project, designing it as a resource-oriented, formally verifiable smart-contract language. He co-founded Mysten Labs in 2021 with Evan Cheng, Adeniyi Abiodun, Kostas Chalkias and George Danezis. At Mysten Labs he served as CTO and was central to Sui's programming model, Move implementation and security architecture, contributing to the Move Prover and other formal-verification tooling.
His departure to Anthropic marks a significant transition for Mysten Labs. His co-founder status at Mysten Labs remains part of his professional record, and the Move language continues to be maintained by a broader community of engineers. Any ongoing advisory, board or code-contributor relationship between Blackshear and Mysten/Sui has not been independently confirmed as of August 2026 and is therefore omitted here.
