Sameer Mhatre is Co-Founder of WazirX, one of India's prominent crypto exchanges, alongside Nischal Shetty and Siddharth Menon. WazirX was founded in 2018 and subsequently acquired by Binance in 2019. Mhatre's background includes engineering work and earlier involvement with Crowdfire, a social media management platform, where he developed software engineering expertise.
Within WazirX, Mhatre has historically been associated with technical and CTO-level responsibilities, though his exact current title as of August 2026 should be verified from official WazirX sources. In July 2024, WazirX suffered a major security incident in which approximately $230 million in assets were compromised from a multi-signature custody wallet. WazirX halted withdrawals, underwent court-sanctioned restructuring and relaunched trading in October 2025 with a Recovery Token mechanism. The WazirX platform operates across multiple legal entities: WazirX brand, Zanmai Labs (the Indian operating entity) and Zettai Pte Ltd (the Singapore entity); responsibilities are distributed across these entities.
