About Jeremy Allaire

Jeremy Allaire is the co-founder, CEO and Chairman of Circle Internet Group — the company that co-created USDC, the world's largest regulated digital dollar stablecoin. Allaire is a serial technology entrepreneur with a career spanning internet software, digital video, and blockchain finance. Circle went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2026 under the ticker CRCL, marking a significant milestone in the mainstreaming of stablecoin infrastructure as regulated financial services.

Allaire has consistently argued that open-network digital currencies and programmable money represent a fundamental shift in internet financial infrastructure. His company does not issue USDC as a personal asset; USDC is a regulated stablecoin issued by Circle Internet Financial, LLC and, in some jurisdictions, by affiliated entities. USDC reserves are held separately from Circle's corporate assets in a reserve fund structure.

Early Career

Allaire attended Macalester College. In the early 1990s, he co-founded Allaire Corporation with his brother JJ Allaire, building ColdFusion — one of the first server-side scripting technologies for the web. Allaire Corporation went public (NASDAQ: ALLR) and was subsequently acquired by Macromedia in 2001, where Jeremy Allaire served as CTO. After Macromedia, he founded Brightcove, an online video platform, and served as its CEO through its NASDAQ IPO in 2012. He also held a period as an entrepreneur-in-residence at General Catalyst.

Founding Circle (2013)

Allaire co-founded Circle in 2013 with Sean Neville. Circle's original product was a consumer Bitcoin wallet and payments app. Over subsequent years, Circle pivoted toward stablecoin infrastructure, culminating in the 2018 creation of USDC — a joint venture between Circle and Coinbase through the Centre Consortium. In 2023, Coinbase and Circle wound down the Centre Consortium; Circle now manages USDC issuance directly.

USDC & Reserve Structure

USDC is a fiat-backed stablecoin: each USDC token is backed 1:1 by cash and short-duration US Treasury instruments held in regulated financial institutions. Circle publishes monthly reserve attestations from independent accounting firms. The reserve fund is distinct from Circle's operating cash and corporate assets. Allaire is not the personal issuer of USDC; it is issued by Circle Internet Financial, LLC under US money transmission and other applicable licenses.

Current 2026 Products & Milestones

Circle National Trust: On July 10, 2026, Circle received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Circle National Trust — a federally chartered national trust bank. This is a regulated trust bank with defined powers; it is not a commercial deposit bank with FDIC insurance unless authorized activities specifically support that characterization.

Circle Payments Network (CPN): A network for financial institutions to settle payments using USDC and other Circle-issued stablecoins.

Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP): A permissionless protocol for burning and minting USDC natively across multiple blockchain networks.

Arc: A Circle-developed blockchain initiative. Its exact public mainnet timing and status as of August 2026 should be verified from current Circle announcements.

Circle Agent Stack: A suite of tools enabling AI agents to hold and transfer value using USDC and Circle's infrastructure.

EURC: Circle's euro-backed stablecoin, regulated under the EU's MiCA framework.

NYSE: CRCL: Circle became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange in 2026. As a public company, it is subject to SEC reporting requirements.
