Bio
Evan Cheng is the Co-Founder and CEO of Mysten Labs, the primary company building core infrastructure for the Sui ecosystem. He leads Mysten Labs following Sam Blackshear's departure to Anthropic in August 2026.
Before founding Mysten Labs, Cheng had extensive experience in systems engineering and compiler infrastructure, including many years at Apple in engineering leadership roles. He subsequently joined Meta, where he worked in blockchain and crypto-platform engineering. At Meta he collaborated with Sam Blackshear, Adeniyi Abiodun, Kostas Chalkias and George Danezis — the group that would become the Mysten Labs founding team.
In 2021, Cheng co-founded Mysten Labs with Blackshear, Abiodun, Chalkias and Danezis. The company built the Sui network, which launched its mainnet in May 2023. Mysten Labs also developed Walrus, a decentralized storage protocol. Cheng's current focus as CEO spans Sui's object-centric architecture, Mysticeti-family consensus, institutional adoption and the Walrus ecosystem.
Note: The Sui network is a decentralized protocol governed separately from Mysten Labs. Cheng's CEO authority applies to Mysten Labs as a company, not to the Sui network itself. Information last checked: August 2026
