George Danezis is a Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of Mysten Labs, and a Professor at University College London (UCL). He brings a research background spanning privacy, distributed systems, Byzantine fault tolerance and scalable blockchain design to the Sui ecosystem.
Danezis's academic career at UCL and earlier work at Microsoft Research and Facebook/Meta gave him deep expertise in secure and privacy-preserving distributed systems. He co-founded Chainspace, an academic sharded smart-contract system, which was acquired by Facebook; verify the exact chronology of this acquisition from authoritative sources. His doctoral and subsequent research established him as a leading voice in privacy-preserving protocols.
In 2021, Danezis co-founded Mysten Labs with Evan Cheng, Sam Blackshear, Adeniyi Abiodun and Kostas Chalkias. He has contributed to the scientific and research direction of Sui's consensus and scalability design and continues to hold his UCL professorship alongside his Mysten Labs role.
Note: the Sui network is governed separately from Mysten Labs. Information last checked: August 2026
