XRP Ledger Payment Volume Pulls Back—But Hasn’t Fallen Near Zero

XRP Ledger payment volume reportedly declined after a sharp rebound from unusually low activity. The figures describe a pullback, rather than a collapse toward zero. Bitnxt examines why percentage gains can mislead and why blockchain transfers alone cannot establish stronger investment demand.

XRP Ledger Payment Volume Cools After Reported Surge

Key Takeaways

  • U.Today reports payment volume falling approximately 45.1% to 200.8 million XRP.
  • Its figures do not support a literal reading that payment activity approached zero.
  • Transfer volume measures something different from exchange buying or the number of active users.
  • The historical readings could not be independently retrieved from XRPSCAN and remain attributed figures.

XRP Ledger payment volume has reportedly cooled after a dramatic rebound, renewing questions about whether stronger blockchain activity is translating into demand for XRP. However, the numbers behind the story support a more measured interpretation than a surge disappearing to “almost zero.”

U.Today’s October 28 report describes a decline following three days of increasing transfers. That is a reversal in the latest direction of activity, but it does not establish that network usage collapsed or explain why investors traded as they did.

XRP Ledger Payment Volume: What the Reported Figures Show

The U.Today report attributes the following readings to XRPSCAN:

Date assigned in the report

Reported payment volume

October 25

Approximately 137.7 million XRP

October 26

Approximately 275.5 million XRP

October 27

Almost 366 million XRP

October 28 snapshot

Approximately 200.8 million XRP

Using those rounded numbers, the latest decline is approximately 45.1%. The report also cites a 30-day average of 480.6 million XRP.

These readings could not be independently reproduced from XRPSCAN during verification. The October 28 observation should also be treated as a snapshot: the retrieved evidence does not establish that it represents a completed daily measurement comparable with every preceding entry.

That timing distinction matters. Comparing an unfinished day with a completed day can make activity appear weaker before the measurement window has closed.

Why a Huge Percentage Needs a Baseline

Percentage growth tells readers how much a figure changed relative to its starting point. It does not, by itself, show whether the final level is unusually high.

Consider a hypothetical example: payment volume falls from 100 million units to one million, then rebounds to 20 million. The rebound is 1,900%, yet activity remains 80% below its earlier level.

Both statements are mathematically correct. They answer different questions.

For XRP Ledger activity, a useful assessment therefore needs the absolute volume, comparable measurement periods and a longer history. A striking daily percentage can reflect recovery from an unusually quiet starting point.

It should not automatically be described as a lasting acceleration in adoption.

Transfers Do Not Automatically Mean New Buyers

The XRP Ledger’s official payment documentation explains that a direct XRP payment transfers XRP from one account to another. The sender’s balance is debited and the recipient’s balance credited.

That process does not require a new exchange purchase.

For example, an existing holder could move tokens between two addresses they control. A business could transfer an existing balance to another party. Both would involve movement of XRP without proving that someone had just bought additional tokens in the market.

These are possible explanations, not identified causes of the latest reported changes.

To connect a transfer spike with investor demand, researchers would need additional evidence about the participating accounts, exchange activity and transaction purpose. Aggregate volume alone cannot reveal those details.

The same distinction applies to user growth. A small number of large transfers can generate more volume than many smaller payments, so volume should be considered alongside transaction counts and account participation.

Bitnxt’s Take: Look for Evidence That Lasts Beyond One Reading

At Bitnxt, our assessment is that this episode is primarily a lesson in interpreting network statistics. The available evidence supports caution about the headline, while leaving the reasons for the reported movement unresolved.

Our earlier coverage of Ethereum, Bitcoin and XRP sentiment examined a related distinction: enthusiasm or fear is a different measure from executed buying. Payment activity adds another perspective, but it also needs its own interpretation.

Similarly, Bitnxt’s report on the XRP Ledger amendment countdown separated technical progress from confirmed activation. The same discipline applies here: a promising observation needs follow-through before it becomes evidence of a durable change.

We would look for several completed measurement periods showing sustained activity, broader participation and independently observable market demand. Agreement between those indicators would make a stronger case than any single percentage.

What Would Make the Next Update More Useful?

A clearer follow-up would identify the exact measurement window, confirm whether each daily entry is complete and examine whether a few large transfers account for most of the movement.

Market context should then be assessed separately. Bitnxt’s October 28 crypto market recap discusses the broader trading environment ahead of the Federal Reserve decision, rather than attributing price movements to one blockchain metric.

Until more complete evidence is available, the reported pullback does not establish that XRP Ledger activity approached zero, that investors abandoned the network or that payment volume caused a particular price outcome.
