Crypto social sentiment has split across three of the market’s largest assets. Ethereum attracted 2.05 bullish comments for every bearish comment, while Bitcoin and XRP recorded ratios below one, according to Santiment’s October 13 update.
The contrast offers a snapshot of trader psychology: enthusiasm around Ethereum alongside greater pessimism toward Bitcoin and XRP. It does not establish that money is moving between those assets—or that their next price moves will follow the conversation.
For investors, the useful question is whether market behaviour confirms what people are saying.
Crypto social sentiment: what the figures mean
Santiment’s update compares discussion across X, Reddit and Telegram.
Asset | Bullish comments per bearish comment | Reading of the reported ratio |
Ethereum | 2.05 | Bullish commentary predominates |
Bitcoin | 0.82 | Bearish commentary predominates |
XRP | 0.92 | Bearish commentary slightly predominates |
Figures come from the October 13 publication. They are a dated snapshot, not live readings.
One is the balance point: equal bullish and bearish commentary. A figure above one indicates more bullish discussion; a figure below one indicates the reverse.
However, the ratios do not disclose how many individual people hold those views. They should not be converted into percentages of all investors, wallet holders or token supply.

Why Ethereum attracted more optimism
Santiment associated Ethereum’s stronger commentary with its recovery above key support, staking demand and expectations surrounding network improvements. These were the themes identified in its sentiment assessment—not independently quantified evidence of new buying.
That difference matters. A trader can publish an optimistic post without increasing their exposure. An existing holder can welcome a development while continuing to reduce their position.
Bitnxt’s interpretation: Ethereum’s stronger social reading establishes a narrative advantage in the sampled discussion. Confirming an investment-demand advantage would require separate evidence from trading activity, fund flows or other relevant market measures.
Bitcoin and XRP faced a more defensive conversation
For Bitcoin, Santiment pointed to rejection near $87,000, a decline toward $81,000, long liquidations and macroeconomic pressure. Its XRP discussion referenced a weekly decline exceeding 9% and difficulty reclaiming the $1.40 area. These describe the context of the October 13 update, rather than current October 14 prices.
Neither ratio identifies a reliable bottom.
A bearish conversation can accompany exhausted selling, but it can also persist through further declines. Price stabilization and renewed demand are needed to distinguish those situations.
That is also why historical downside references require careful wording. Bitnxt’s report on CryptoQuant’s $74,500 Bitcoin drawdown comparison explains the difference between a scenario reference and confirmed support.
How sentiment analysis works—and where its limits begin
Santiment’s documentation describes models that classify social text into bullish, neutral and bearish categories. It also explains that filtering and changes to models or data sources can affect the resulting metrics and historical readings.
This makes sentiment a useful analytical input, rather than a direct survey of every market participant.
The short October 13 update does not provide the raw comment counts or complete sampling window needed to reconstruct the published ratios independently. That limits how confidently readers can compare the strength of the underlying samples.
The figures are also distinct from a broad Fear and Greed Index reading. Calling Bitcoin or XRP “fearful” here describes Santiment’s interpretation of asset-specific discussion.
Why fear can interest contrarian traders
A contrarian approach examines whether expectations have become excessively one-sided. Strong enthusiasm can raise the risk of disappointment; widespread pessimism can leave room for positive surprises.
But the missing step is confirmation.
A sentiment reading alone cannot establish that sellers have finished, buyers are returning or leverage has normalized. Santiment’s own recovery condition is therefore important.
Funding and positioning provide different information from social posts. Bitnxt’s explanation of who pays stablecoin yield explores how leveraged traders’ funding payments connect to other market strategies.
Bitnxt view: compare the conversation with the market
Bitnxt’s editorial assessment: The strongest takeaway is the gap between narratives—not a prediction that Ethereum must rise or that Bitcoin and XRP are ready to rebound.
A useful follow-up would examine whether Ethereum sustains relative strength, whether Bitcoin and XRP stabilize, and whether trading activity supports either development. Comparing those observations over matching periods is more informative than treating a single ratio as a buy or sell signal.
