Bitcoin Leads Crypto Rebound as Traders Await Fed Decision

Major cryptocurrencies edged higher ahead of the Federal Reserve’s October decision. Bitcoin approached a closely watched breakout level, but evidence of weak relative demand on Coinbase complicates the bullish case. The next test is whether the recovery holds after the policy announcement.

Crypto Market Recap: Bitcoin Near $81K Before Fed Decision

Key Takeaways

  • Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Dogecoin gained in Benzinga’s overnight snapshot.
  • The Federal Reserve’s official calendar confirms an October 27–28 policy meeting.
  • Michaël van de Poppe’s bullish outlook depends on Bitcoin reclaiming $81,000.
  • A negative Coinbase Premium measures a price discount; it does not prove that all U.S. investors have stopped buying.

This crypto market recap captures a cautious recovery ahead of the Federal Reserve’s October policy decision. Bitcoin and major altcoins moved higher in the overnight session, but the more useful question is whether buyers can sustain that improvement once the Fed delivers its message.

The Federal Reserve’s official meeting calendar lists the October meeting for October 27–28. This article examines the pre-decision market snapshot, rather than a reaction to an announced outcome.

Crypto market recap: The overnight price snapshot

Benzinga recorded the following prices at 9:20 p.m. EDT on October 27, equivalent to 6:50 a.m. IST on October 28.

These are timestamped observations, not live quotes. Rolling 24-hour changes also differ from returns measured since the start of a calendar day.

The table shows gains across all five assets, with XRP leading this particular group. It does not establish that the wider altcoin market has entered a sustained rally.

Why the Fed decision needs more than a headline reading

CME explains that its FedWatch probabilities are derived from 30-Day Federal Funds futures prices. They represent market pricing of possible policy outcomes, rather than a commitment from the central bank.

For Bitnxt’s analysis, that distinction matters because a widely expected decision may contain little surprise by itself. Investors can still reassess the outlook after reading the statement and hearing how policymakers describe inflation, employment and future decisions.

A decision to leave rates unchanged, for example, could be accompanied by language that strengthens or weakens expectations for later easing. The rate decision and the message around it deserve separate attention.

Bitnxt’s earlier coverage of crypto ahead of the October CPI release examined a similar problem: an improving market before an economic announcement does not establish how prices will behave afterward.

Bitcoin’s $81,000 level is an analyst condition

Michaël van de Poppe identified $81,000 as a level Bitcoin needed to reclaim for his bullish scenario, according to reports reproducing his October 27 post.

That is a conditional technical assessment. It does not establish a guaranteed destination or timetable.

Our interpretation is that the useful test would be whether Bitcoin can sustain trading above the level, rather than briefly cross it. A move that quickly reverses would provide different evidence from a sustained recovery supported by broader participation.

This is also why price references should retain their original context. Bitnxt’s analysis of CryptoQuant’s $74,500 drawdown reference distinguished a historical scenario from established support. The same discipline applies to bullish breakout levels.

Coinbase’s price discount complicates the demand picture

CryptoQuant contributor Arab Chain recently highlighted a deeply negative Coinbase Premium reading, interpreting it as a sign of weaker relative demand on Coinbase.

The metric’s definition is more precise than a general claim about institutional buying. According to CryptoQuant’s methodology, the index compares Bitcoin’s Coinbase BTC/USD price with its Binance BTC/USDT price as a percentage difference.

A negative reading means the Coinbase price is lower than the Binance comparison price.

That can help assess relative buying and selling pressure, but it is not a direct count of institutional purchases. Nor does it mean that no U.S. buyers are active. Both venues serve different participants, and the comparison involves different quote currencies.

The indicator therefore provides a useful cross-check on a rising Bitcoin price. A recovery accompanied by an improving premium would tell a different story from a rally that leaves the discount persistently negative.

Bitnxt View: Watch whether price and demand improve together

Our reading is that this session offers an early recovery signal, while the case for a lasting reversal still needs more evidence.

We would assess three developments together: whether the rebound survives the Fed announcement, whether relative spot demand strengthens, and whether gains extend beyond a handful of major tokens.

These measures answer different questions. Price shows what buyers and sellers have agreed to pay. A cross-exchange premium adds information about relative pressure. Market breadth shows how widely an advance is shared.

Social enthusiasm offers another perspective, but it should remain separate. As discussed in Bitnxt’s coverage of Ethereum, Bitcoin and XRP sentiment, discussion about an asset is a different category of evidence from executed buying.

The next meaningful development is whether these signals begin to reinforce one another after the policy announcement. Until then, the overnight gains support a cautious recovery narrative, with the breakout case still conditional.
