What the Zeal Card is
Zeal is a self-custodial software wallet that connects to the Gnosis Pay Visa debit card, so the card is not issued by Zeal itself. The app is where you order, connect and manage the card, track cashback and control auto-recharge — you can either order a new Gnosis Pay card through Zeal or connect one you already hold.
Who actually issues and regulates what
That split matters. The card is managed by Gnosis Pay Co Ltd, a UK-registered company, and issued by Monavate Limited under licence from Visa Europe. Monavate is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority as an Electronic Money Institution. Euro bank transfers are processed by Monerium, an authorised EMI and Virtual Asset Service Provider supervised by the Central Bank of Iceland. Zeal describes itself plainly: self-custodial software that is not regulated in any jurisdiction.
How the rewards work
Cashback is paid in GNO on Gnosis Chain, and eligibility depends on holding GNO in your Gnosis Pay Safe — the more GNO you hold, the higher the rate, up to 4%. That means the headline rate is a function of a token position, not just spending volume.
Where Zeal adds value
Three things stand out. Foreign spend uses Visa's wholesale exchange rate with no additional Zeal markup. SEPA deposits and euro transfers through Monerium cost 0%. And auto-recharge tops the card up from balances parked in Sky or Aave earning up to 5.1% APY, so you do not have to keep a large float on the card.
Zeal fronts the Gnosis Pay Visa from a self-custodial wallet and pays up to 4% cashback in GNO, with no Zeal FX fees on foreign spending. The underlying platform is Gnosis Pay itself, and Ready is the nearest self-custody alternative on Starknet. Our Best Crypto Cards directory compares the two.
