What the SwissBorg Card is
The SwissBorg Card is a Mastercard debit card built directly into the SwissBorg app, announced under an official partnership with Mastercard and rolled out from early 2026. In its first stage it is a virtual card, usable online and in physical stores through Apple Pay, Google Pay or Curve.
How spending works
You choose a primary spending asset — BORG, BTC, ETH, SOL or one of the supported stablecoins — and can set several backup assets. At checkout the app instantly swaps from your chosen asset into the card's base currency, which is EUR, CHF or GBP depending on where you live. If your primary balance is too low, the card falls back to your backup assets automatically so the payment still completes. Only crypto wallets can be used: fiat wallets cannot fund the card.
How the rewards actually work
This is the detail most summaries get wrong. SwissBorg pays cashback in BORG, but it is calculated as a rebate of the exchange fee generated by the conversion, not as a percentage of your purchase. Depending on your Loyalty Rank you can receive up to 99% of that exchange fee back, which effectively makes the conversion near-free at the highest ranks rather than paying you a share of your spending.
Who can get it
The card is free, but eligibility is specific: a retail SwissBorg account with no restrictions, identity verification to KYC Level 2 with a verified photo ID and address, and residence in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland. The phased rollout began with Switzerland, Germany, France and most of the EEA.
SwissBorg's free virtual Mastercard converts BTC, ETH, SOL, BORG or stablecoins to the local currency at the moment of payment. imToken offers a multi-currency Mastercard through Swiss-licensed Fiat24, and SafePal adds a Swiss IBAN.
