What is a crypto airdrop?

A crypto airdrop distributes tokens to users who meet a project’s conditions. Eligibility might depend on earlier activity, a wallet snapshot, account holdings or participation during a defined campaign.

Some distributions happen automatically. Others require eligible users to claim before a deadline. An open claim page does not necessarily mean that someone joining today can qualify.

Start by understanding the campaign’s rules rather than its advertised reward pool. If the terminology is unfamiliar, our crypto glossary explains common blockchain concepts.

Different campaigns require different decisions

Rewards for past activity

Eligibility may depend on a snapshot or actions completed before an announcement. Using the project now may not change your allocation. Check the qualifying period first.

Open participation campaigns

A project may accept tasks or activity during a published window. Review the selection rules: completing a task can qualify you for consideration without guaranteeing a reward.

Holder and account rewards

Some programs require qualifying token balances or eligible platform accounts. Consider the holding requirement, platform restrictions and costs before treating the distribution as free.

Points and testnet programs

Points, badges and testnet activity are not promises of valuable tokens. Only describe a token reward as confirmed when the project explicitly announces it.

A practical airdrop checklist

  1. Find the official announcement.

Start from the project’s established website. Follow its own links to campaign rules and participation pages.

  2. Read the eligibility conditions.

Check the snapshot, qualifying actions, account requirements and regional restrictions. Global coverage does not mean every campaign is available worldwide.

  3. Separate the deadlines.

Registration, qualifying activity and claiming can close on different dates. Check the stated timezone rather than assuming a countdown uses your local time.

  4. Understand the reward.

A total campaign pool is not a personal allocation. Selection rules, participant numbers and distribution formulas may affect what an eligible user receives.

  5. Identify the costs.

Review transaction fees, trading requirements and capital commitments. Avoid spending more than you can justify on an uncertain outcome.

  6. Record what is unknown.

Missing dates, unclear eligibility and unannounced token amounts should remain unknown. Check for updates instead of relying on guesses.

Use the required wallet or account

Some campaigns use self-custody wallets; others distribute through an exchange account. Check the official requirements before choosing a setup.

Read what you are signing

A familiar logo or an official-looking page is not enough. Check the destination domain and understand each signature or transaction request. Never provide a recovery phrase or private key.

Our hardware wallet directory can help you research storage options. A hardware wallet does not make a malicious approval safe. Disconnecting a site also does not automatically revoke token approvals.

How to read a Bitnxt listing

Each published campaign should link to the official information used for its summary and show when that source was checked. Read the eligibility qualifier alongside the status badge.

‘Claim open’ describes a stage of the campaign, not a promise that your wallet qualifies. ‘Not announced’ means the reviewed source has not supplied that information.

Campaign rules can change. Revisit the official announcement before acting, and follow our crypto news coverage for broader project developments.

Questions about airdrop participation

If a campaign only counts activity before a completed snapshot, later activity may not qualify. Some campaigns have multiple rounds, so check the rules for the specific round.
