OpenSea Brings Live Onchain Market Data to Perplexity Computer

OpenSea Brings Live Onchain Market Data to Perplexity Computer
OpenSea integrated its cross-chain market data with Perplexity Computer, giving the AI agent access to live onchain trading activity across more than 25 blockchains.

OpenSea has integrated its cross-chain market data with Perplexity Computer, allowing the AI agent to answer questions about token and NFT trading activity using live data covering more than 25 blockchains.

Key Takeaways

  • OpenSea integrated its marketplace data with Perplexity Computer for live onchain market queries

  • The connector covers tokens, NFTs, and collectibles across more than 25 blockchains

  • Perplexity can cite underlying OpenSea data when responding to user questions about trading activity

  • The move is part of OpenSea's broader expansion beyond NFTs into a 'trade everything' platform

OpenSea Gives Perplexity Access to Live Onchain Market Data

In an announcement shared on Aug. 27, OpenSea said Perplexity Computer can use its marketplace data when users ask about heavily traded tokens, collectibles attracting activity, and other onchain market signals. The connector covers fungible tokens, collectibles, and NFTs, and allows Perplexity to cite the underlying OpenSea data in its responses. Users can ask which tokens have recorded the most trading activity during a particular period or which assets are drawing attention from traders and collectors. Perplexity then uses OpenSea data to answer based on current marketplace activity instead of relying solely on token price feeds.

OpenSea co-founder and CEO Devin Finzer said users were already asking what was moving onchain, and the integration allows Perplexity Computer to answer those questions using marketplace activity. Perplexity Head of Live Events Products Jeff Grimes added that onchain markets move too quickly for static answers, and OpenSea's cross-chain data lets users receive responses based on current market transactions. The OpenSea connector is available through the Connectors page in Perplexity Computer. This integration reflects the broader convergence of AI and crypto, connecting to the USDC powering 99% of x402 AI agent payments and the broader AI-crypto infrastructure trend.

OpenSea Expands Beyond NFT Marketplace

The Perplexity deal follows a series of changes that have expanded OpenSea beyond the NFT marketplace business it was originally known for. In June, OpenSea was preparing to enter perpetual futures trading using Hyperliquid infrastructure. The platform's OS2 overhaul combined fungible token and NFT trading across multiple networks, reducing the need for users to move between separate applications. The expansion followed the introduction of OpenSea's native SEA token plans in February 2025, though the launch was delayed in March 2026 due to challenging market conditions.

OpenSea had previously placed AI inside its own product roadmap, introducing an AI-powered mobile product in September 2025 alongside changes to its rewards program. The company acquired Rally Wallet two months earlier to strengthen its mobile and token trading business. OS2 supported trading across 19 blockchains with cross-chain functionality and real-time liquidity aggregation. The latest Perplexity announcement puts OpenSea's market data reach at more than 25 chains. This expansion connects to the DeFi Development's Solana network data dashboard and the SQD adding validated onchain data to Google Cloud BigQuery.

Looking Ahead: AI Agents and Onchain Markets

OpenSea said it expects more integrations of this type as AI agents take on a larger role in how users interact with crypto markets. The integration with Perplexity represents one of the first major partnerships between an NFT marketplace and an AI search platform, potentially setting a precedent for other marketplaces to make their data available to AI agents. As AI agents become more sophisticated in processing onchain data, the demand for real-time, cross-chain market data is likely to grow, creating new opportunities for platforms like OpenSea that can aggregate and provide that data.
