Nathan McCauley is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Anchorage Digital, an institutional digital asset platform that holds the distinction of being the first federally chartered digital asset bank in the United States (through its subsidiary Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., chartered by the OCC). McCauley co-founded Anchorage alongside Diogo Mónica in 2017, bringing deep security engineering expertise to the challenge of making digital assets secure enough for institutional adoption.
Before Anchorage, McCauley worked as Director of Security Engineering at Docker, the container platform company, where he focused on enterprise security infrastructure. This background informed Anchorage's security-first approach to institutional custody, which uses hardware security modules and cryptographic controls rather than software-only key management.
In 2024, Anchorage announced a leadership update in which McCauley remained CEO with continued responsibility for strategy and operations, while co-founder Diogo Mónica transitioned to Executive Chairman. Under McCauley's leadership, Anchorage Digital has expanded into agentic banking (in partnership with Google Cloud), tokenized deposits, stablecoin infrastructure and prime services for institutional clients.
