Bio
Jeffrey Wilcke is one of Ethereum's eight recognized co-founders and the creator of the original Go Ethereum (Geth) execution client. His early engineering contributions were instrumental in bringing Ethereum from whitepaper to a working blockchain, with Geth becoming one of the most widely used Ethereum clients in the network's history.
Wilcke wrote the first implementation of Ethereum in Go, beginning work before the network's genesis block in July 2015. Geth's reliability, performance and active maintenance made it the dominant choice among node operators and developers for many years. He played a significant engineering leadership role during Ethereum's foundational period before stepping back from day-to-day Ethereum development.
After his work on Ethereum, Wilcke shifted focus to game development. His current professional identity is associated with Grid Games, a studio he founded. Geth today is maintained by the Ethereum Foundation's Go team and a broader open-source contributor community, not by Wilcke personally. Ethereum has no CEO, owner or single controlling party — it is governed through a decentralized process involving client developers, validators, the Ethereum Foundation and the community.
