Bio
Jae Kwon is the CEO of All in Bits and the founder of Gno.land, as well as a co-founder of both Cosmos and Tendermint. His work on Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus laid technical groundwork that underpins a broad range of proof-of-stake networks today.
Kwon began developing the Tendermint consensus protocol in 2014, addressing a long-standing academic problem of achieving deterministic finality in distributed systems without relying on proof-of-work. Tendermint became the engine behind the Cosmos Hub and a widely adopted consensus library. He co-founded Cosmos alongside Ethan Buchman and helped produce the Cosmos whitepaper, which introduced the concept of an "internet of blockchains" connected through the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.
After stepping back from day-to-day Cosmos Hub governance, Kwon channelled his focus into Gno.land, a new smart-contract platform built on a secure, interpreted version of Go called Gnolang. All in Bits, the company he leads, serves as the primary incubator for Gno.land, Tendermint2 and related NewTendermint projects. Information last checked: August 2026.
