Jake Yocom-Piatt is the Co-Founder and Project Lead of Decred, a blockchain designed from the ground up to address governance and funding challenges that emerged in Bitcoin's development history. He co-founded Decred through Company 0, the software company he leads, which developed btcsuite — a clean-room Go implementation of the Bitcoin protocol — before creating Decred as a separate project. Company 0 provided early funding and development infrastructure for Decred, though the protocol itself is governed by its community of token holders and validators.
Decred's core technical innovation is a hybrid Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake consensus system combined with the Politeia governance platform, which allows DCR holders to vote on treasury expenditures and protocol changes using on-chain tickets. This model separates mining from governance, giving stakers formal authority over the project's direction. Yocom-Piatt remains an active Project Lead and public voice for Decred, regularly writing on privacy, governance, AI, and blockchain policy via the Company 0 blog and his X account.
