Bio

Barry Silbert is the Founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group (DCG), one of the most influential holding companies in the cryptocurrency industry, with subsidiaries and investments spanning exchanges, asset management, mining, media, and lending. He returned as Chairman of Grayscale Investments in 2025, per public reporting, overseeing the world's largest crypto asset manager by AUM.

Silbert founded SecondMarket in 2004, a marketplace for trading illiquid private company shares and alternative assets. Nasdaq acquired the company in 2015. He used that platform to build one of the earliest institutional Bitcoin investment vehicles. DCG was formally founded in 2015 and grew to encompass subsidiaries including Grayscale Investments, Foundry (mining and staking), Luno (exchange), CoinDesk (media, later sold), and Genesis Global Trading (lending — which filed for bankruptcy in 2023).

DCG's portfolio has been subject to material legal and regulatory scrutiny, particularly related to Genesis Global Capital's bankruptcy proceedings and investor claims. Silbert has navigated significant restructuring of DCG's subsidiaries. He is also associated with Yuma, a decentralized AI initiative.
