About Ben Armstrong

Ben Armstrong, widely known as BitBoy, is an American crypto media personality who founded the BitBoy Crypto YouTube channel in 2018. The channel grew significantly during the cryptocurrency bull-market period and became a widely recognized retail-facing crypto media brand covering Bitcoin, altcoins, market developments and industry commentary. Armstrong later separated from the media operation associated with the BitBoy Crypto brand following a highly publicized 2023 dispute. His later career has included independent crypto commentary and media activity. Armstrong's public career has also involved disputes, litigation and regulatory and marketing criticism. This profile distinguishes verified facts from allegations, claims, court proceedings and outcomes.

Education

According to his LinkedIn profile and Crunchbase, Armstrong attended Toccoa Falls College from 2009 to 2012, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Ministry Leadership. The Org additionally lists further education at Kennesaw State University. Armstrong's crypto career developed through media, entrepreneurship and self-directed industry experience rather than a technical or financial degree.

Early Professional Career

Before BitBoy Crypto, Armstrong's public profiles list involvement with Ben Armstrong Designs, a design and digital media venture, and Three Dimensional Life. He was also co-host of the Beards & Bitcoins podcast from approximately 2018 to 2021, which covered cryptocurrency topics and helped build his early audience in the crypto community.

Discovering Bitcoin

Armstrong has publicly said he first became involved with Bitcoin around 2012. He later decided to focus professionally on cryptocurrency content creation, combining his media and marketing background with his interest in digital assets. Personal investment details from this period have not been independently verified.

Founding BitBoy Crypto

Armstrong founded the BitBoy Crypto YouTube channel in 2018. The channel focused on Bitcoin, cryptocurrency news, altcoins, market commentary, project reviews, interviews and crypto education. BitBoy Crypto was a media and content brand, not a registered investment adviser.

What Was BitBoy Crypto?

BitBoy Crypto developed from a YouTube channel into a broader crypto media operation. At its height, the brand included a website, podcast content, the Around the Blockchain panel show, social media channels and educational products. These products were associated with the historical BitBoy Crypto operation; Armstrong is no longer affiliated with the brand.

Growth During the Crypto Bull Market

Armstrong's audience expanded substantially during the 2020 to 2021 crypto market cycle. At its peak, the BitBoy Crypto YouTube channel reportedly had over one million subscribers. Historical subscriber and follower figures should not be presented as current audience size, as Armstrong's separation from the brand and the passage of time have materially changed those numbers.

Crypto Influencer Media

The business model behind crypto influencer media generally involves building an audience through content, then generating revenue through advertising, sponsorships, affiliate partnerships and educational products. Specific revenue streams attributed to Armstrong personally have not been independently documented, and his personal income has not been verified.

Sponsored Content and Disclosures

Armstrong's historical content included sponsorships, paid promotions, affiliate links and token or project promotions. Crypto influencer content can create conflicts where a creator owns an asset, receives sponsorship payments, receives affiliate commissions, receives tokens or promotes a project. Disclosures matter because retail audiences may rely on influencer commentary when making financial decisions. This profile does not accuse Armstrong of undisclosed compensation in any specific case unless documented, and does not label any promoted project a scam absent authoritative legal findings.

Departure From BitBoy Crypto

In August 2023, public reporting documented Armstrong's separation from the company and media operation associated with BitBoy Crypto. On August 28 to 29, 2023, BJ Investment Holdings, the parent company of HIT Network, announced that it had removed Armstrong from the company and the BitBoy Crypto brand. The company stated that the decision was intended to help Armstrong address substance abuse and to remedy harm to employees and the brand. Armstrong denied the allegations made against him. The separation was widely reported across crypto and mainstream media.

HIT Network and Brand Ownership

Following the August 2023 separation, the BitBoy Crypto brand, including the original YouTube channel and associated social accounts, has been controlled by HIT Network and BJ Investment Holdings. TJ Shedd became CEO of HIT Network. Armstrong is no longer affiliated with the BitBoy Crypto brand or the original YouTube channel. The BitBoy persona, the BitBoy Crypto brand, HIT Network and Armstrong personally are distinct entities and should not be conflated.

Independent Media Activity

After his separation from BitBoy Crypto, Armstrong created new social media accounts and continued publishing crypto commentary independently. Reporting indicates his post-separation audience has been smaller than the peak BitBoy Crypto following. As of August 2026, Armstrong maintains independent social media accounts but no longer controls the BitBoy Crypto brand or its original channels.

Published Work

Armstrong is the author of Catching Up to Crypto: Your Guide to Bitcoin and the New Digital Economy, with a foreword by Raoul Pal. The book was published by Wiley and is available in print and audiobook formats. It provides a beginner-oriented guide to Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.

BEN Token

In June 2023, Armstrong launched a meme token called BEN. According to market reporting, the token reached a peak price of approximately $0.000011 by July 1, 2023, before declining substantially. Armstrong's association with BEN was promotional; he is not identified as the token's technical creator. This profile does not provide investment advice regarding BEN or any other token.

Legal and Public Disputes

Armstrong's career has included several legal matters that materially affected his public standing. Each is described here with attention to the distinction between allegations, charges, arrests, lawsuits, court rulings and convictions.

In 2023, Armstrong was arrested and charged with loitering and prowling at the residence of a former business associate, along with a charge of simple assault by placing another in fear. He was released on bail. An arrest is not a conviction.

In March 2025, Armstrong was arrested in Florida on a fugitive warrant. Public reporting and court records indicate the warrant was connected to alleged threatening emails sent to Judge Kimberly A. Childs of Cobb County Superior Court in Georgia, before whom Armstrong had appeared in a defamation matter. Armstrong had publicly criticized the judge. An arrest is not a conviction.

In June or July 2025, Armstrong was arrested again in Georgia on harassment charges. The disposition of these charges as of August 2026 has not been independently confirmed by Bitnxt.

In the civil defamation case brought by Kevin O'Leary, a U.S. federal judge entered a default judgment of approximately $2.83 million in favor of O'Leary against Armstrong. The judgment comprised approximately $78,000 in reputational damages, $750,000 in emotional distress damages and $2 million in punitive damages, after Armstrong failed to defend himself against the claims. A default judgment is a civil ruling, not a criminal conviction.

Scrutiny of Crypto Influencers

Armstrong's career developed within a broader context of scrutiny around crypto influencers, paid token promotions, disclosure practices, retail audiences and market volatility. Questions about financial-influencer responsibility and conflicts of interest have been widely discussed in the crypto industry and in regulatory circles. This broader context is relevant to understanding the public reception of Armstrong's work.

BitBoy Crypto: Current Status

As of August 2026, the BitBoy Crypto brand is operated by HIT Network under BJ Investment Holdings, with TJ Shedd as CEO. Armstrong is not involved with the current BitBoy Crypto operation. The original YouTube channel and primary social accounts are controlled by the company, not by Armstrong.

Ben Armstrong: Current Status

As of August 2026, Armstrong's primary professional activity is independent crypto commentary on his own social media accounts. He does not control the BitBoy Crypto brand. He has faced multiple legal proceedings during 2025, some of which remained unresolved as of the last information check. Armstrong has disputed claims made against him in various public statements.

Retail Crypto Education

Armstrong's content helped introduce a large retail audience to concepts including Bitcoin, blockchain, altcoins, wallets, exchanges and market cycles. This educational impact is balanced by the importance of independent research and disclosure when consuming influencer content.

Risks and Considerations

Crypto influencer content carries inherent risks. Market predictions represent opinions and should not be treated as guaranteed outcomes. Token promotions may involve conflicts of interest. Retail audiences should conduct independent research and consider disclosure practices when evaluating influencer commentary. Past performance and historical audience size do not guarantee future results.
