Crypto ETFs Lose Ground Across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP as Ether Leads Withdrawals

All four spot ETF groups finished the October 12–16 trading week with reported net withdrawals. Ethereum recorded the largest dollar outflow, while Bitcoin’s positive sessions failed to offset heavier redemptions elsewhere in the week.

Crypto ETF Outflows Hit All Four Major Spot Fund Groups

Key Takeaways

  • Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP spot ETF groups all recorded weekly net outflows.
  • Farside’s displayed daily figures indicate approximately $228.4 million in Bitcoin withdrawals and $320.1 million from Ethereum products.
  • Solana’s rounded daily figures total approximately $25.5 million in outflows; XRP withdrawals were reported at $1.84 million.
  • Bitcoin and Ethereum both attracted money on Tuesday, October 13, but those inflows did not reverse their weekly losses.
  • The figures measure demand through ETF products, rather than identifying every investor or explaining their reasons for selling.

Crypto ETF outflows spread across four asset groups

Crypto ETF outflows extended across US spot Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP products during October 12–16, leaving all four groups in negative territory for the completed trading week.

The broad direction matches the circulating market update, although exact totals differ slightly between published datasets. The screenshot lists Bitcoin withdrawals of $228.58 million, Ethereum at $319.97 million, Solana at $25.52 million and XRP at $1.84 million. A separate weekly market summary carries those same figures.

For consistency, the Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana calculations below use Farside Investors’ displayed daily totals. XRP’s figure is separately attributed to reporting based on SoSoValue.

Tuesday’s inflows could not carry the week

Bitcoin’s weekly result was not a sequence of uninterrupted withdrawals.

Its funds attracted approximately $175.7 million on October 13, before losing $261.4 million the following day. Thursday brought a much smaller positive result, followed by another negative session on Friday. Ethereum also turned positive on Tuesday, but its other four sessions finished negative.

That pattern explains why daily headlines can give a different impression from the completed weekly balance. A return to inflows can be meaningful without being large enough—or persistent enough—to establish a recovery.

Bitnxt’s earlier report on Bitcoin’s positive October 15 flow alongside Ethereum withdrawals captured one of those contrasting sessions.

Ethereum’s larger withdrawal needs context

Ether products lost more dollars than Bitcoin products during the week. That establishes the ranking by absolute outflow, but it does not provide a complete comparison of investor behaviour.

To measure the relative severity of withdrawals, investors would also need each group’s assets under management over a consistent period. A dollar leaving a smaller fund group represents a larger proportion of its assets than the same dollar leaving a much larger group.

Fund-level concentration matters too. A category-wide result can be driven by one large product, several issuers or offsetting movements between competing funds.

Those distinctions become useful when deciding whether the figures suggest a broad reduction in exposure or changes concentrated within particular products.

Solana and XRP also finished negative

Solana’s displayed Farside totals were negative in every session of the week, with the largest withdrawal arriving on Friday.

XRP’s reported $1.84 million weekly withdrawal was smaller in dollar terms. Coverage citing SoSoValue described it as ending a 13-week run of net inflows. That makes the change in direction noteworthy, while leaving open whether it develops into a sustained pattern.

One negative week does not establish a lasting rejection of an asset. Equally, a long positive streak does not ensure that demand will continue.

ETF flows and market sentiment can move differently

ETF figures describe activity through a particular investment structure. They do not capture every spot exchange, derivatives position or direct purchase.

They also cannot identify the motivation behind each redemption. Portfolio rebalancing, liquidity needs, hedging and changing price expectations can produce similar-looking flow results.

For the same reason, stronger online enthusiasm does not necessarily translate into money entering funds. Bitnxt’s coverage of Ethereum’s bullish social sentiment alongside caution toward Bitcoin and XRP examines another indicator that should be assessed separately.

Understanding the fund structure helps as well. Our explanation of who owns the Bitcoin inside BlackRock’s IBIT distinguishes trading existing shares from activity that changes the trust’s assets.

Bitnxt View: A recovery needs to survive the full week

The breadth of withdrawals is the central development: the weekly weakness extended beyond one asset group.

The next useful test is whether positive sessions become more persistent and spread across several funds. A recovery supported by multiple products would offer stronger evidence than a single large inflow followed by renewed redemptions.

For now, the completed week supports a cautious reading of ETF demand. It does not, on its own, establish where crypto prices move next.
