JAIPUR, India, November 2, 2026 — Coconut, the open-source Bitcoin self-custody app pair built by Seoul-based NonceLab, joined Bitmela as a Sponsored Exhibitor. The festival, billed as India’s first Bitcoin festival, took place on October 30 and 31 at the InterContinental Jaipur.
Bitnxt, a media partner of the festival, met NonceLab CEO Louis Ko in person.
NonceLab came to teach as well as exhibit. Maru, a self-custody educator at NonceLab and Bitcoin Center Seoul, led “Self Custody 101: Workshop With Coconut Wallet,” a 90-minute hands-on session on the Bitshala Stage on the opening day. Chief Marketing Officer Mineey joined two panels on the second day, one on what money means in different parts of the world and one on building Bitcoin communities from the grassroots.
Two apps with two separate jobs
Coconut is built around one design decision: the app you use every day should never be the app that signs.
Coconut Wallet is a watch-only wallet for an everyday phone. It shows balances and builds transactions, reading live data from a Bitcoin node. Coconut Vault runs on a separate, dedicated phone that stays offline, and it signs transactions there. If that phone connects to the outside world, the app blocks use.
The two apps talk through QR codes. A user builds a transaction in Wallet, scans it with Vault, signs it, scans the signed data back into Wallet and broadcasts it to the network. At no point does the Vault phone need a connection.
NonceLab’s pitch is that this gives people strong offline security without a complex, expensive hardware wallet. The company is also clear that the setup depends on good habits. It advises users to keep the Vault phone dedicated to that one purpose, factory-reset it before first use, choose a strong passphrase over a short PIN and power it off when idle.
Built for real use
For everyday management, Coconut Wallet offers UTXO tools, payment notes and tags, RBF and CPFP fee controls, and support for pairing a personal full node. It also connects with many hardware wallets, so people who already own one can use it too. A fake balance option helps users keep their holdings private.
Coconut Vault adds its own protections, including Secret Eraser for wiping sensitive data, a Sign-only Mode, a Privacy Mode and a Fail Safe Reset that increases wait times after failed unlock attempts and resets the app once all attempts are used.
Open code and a safe place to practise
The code behind both apps and the shared library is public on GitHub, in keeping with the team’s position that every Bitcoin wallet should be open source and open to verification.
For first-timers, NonceLab offers Coconut Learning, a pair of practice apps that let people create a wallet, receive test bitcoin with no market value, and sign and send a transaction before they touch real funds.
From launch to Bitmela in just over a year
Coconut Wallet launched on Bitcoin mainnet in July 2025, followed by Coconut Vault that October. According to NonceLab’s company records, Vault reached No. 1 among paid apps on Google Play and No. 2 on the App Store on October 28, 2025, two days after its iOS release.
The same month, NonceLab opened Bitcoin Center Seoul, a physical space for learning, classes, meetups and hands-on wallet practice. Taken together with its book publishing, this reflects the way the company describes itself: tools, spaces and knowledge for Bitcoin.
Bitmela placed that work in front of an Indian audience, alongside fellow supporters including title sponsor Cake Wallet, Foundation, Trezor Academy, Bitshala and Unocoin.
Bitcoin self-custody means you are responsible for your own private keys and recovery information. Official Coconut releases are available only on the App Store and Google Play. This release is for information only and is not financial advice.
