Bitcoin, Ethereum ETF Inflows Hit $1.2B This Week

Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF inflows reach $1.2 billion amid rising institutional demand.

Summary :

  • Spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs pulled in $1.20 billion for the week.

  • Bitcoin products took $986.7M, more than 80% of the total.

  • Ethereum inflows fell 73.6% from the prior week to $215.3M.

  • Sept. 3 alone brought $730.8M into Bitcoin funds.

  • Cumulative Bitcoin ETF inflows now sit near $55.69 billion.

One day did most of the work. US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs drew $1.20 billion for the trading week ending Sept. 4, and Sept. 3 alone delivered $730.8 million into Bitcoin funds, roughly 74% of that asset's entire weekly total. Strip out Wednesday and this was a cautious week. Keep it, and the ETF inflows story rolls on.

Bitcoin products finished at $986.7 million in net weekly inflows per Farside Investors data, up 6.7% from the prior week's $924.5 million. The path was anything but smooth: $216.7 million in on Aug. 31, $236.5 million out on Sept. 1, then three straight positive sessions of $101.1 million, $730.8 million and $174.6 million. BlackRock's funds carried the week with $691.5 million net. ARK and 21Shares' ARKB added $137.7 million, Fidelity's FBTC $94.8 million, Bitwise $41.7 million. Grayscale's converted GBTC even posted a modest $18.6 million inflow, while VanEck's HODL bled about $33 million. Cumulative net inflows across the spot Bitcoin ETF market now approach $55.69 billion.

Ethereum's ETF inflows cooled, hard

The Ethereum side of the ledger is where this week gets less flattering. Ether funds stayed positive at $215.3 million, but that is a 73.6% collapse from $815.7 million the week before. The daily sequence wobbles: $87.6 million in on Aug. 31, $8.6 million on Sept. 1, $48.2 million out on Sept. 2, $141.4 million back on Sept. 3, then just $25.9 million to close. BlackRock's ETHA and its staked-Ether product ETHB together took $218.2 million, slightly more than the whole category netted once competitors' withdrawals were counted. Fidelity's FETH captured $65.1 million on Sept. 3 and gave back $48.3 million the next day. Grayscale's high-fee ETHE lost $37 million on the week. Cumulative Ether ETF inflows stand near $13.19 billion.

What changed midweek? Rates. Fed Governor Christopher Waller said on Sept. 3 he could support keeping rates unchanged if inflation kept easing, and risk appetite responded instantly: combined crypto ETF inflows that day hit $872.2 million while Bitcoin popped above $81,000. Then Friday's jobs report, 162,000 new payrolls against 56,000 expected, reminded everyone that a strong economy gives the Fed room to stay tight, and Bitcoin slid back to $79,600. The ETF bid is now visibly a rates trade in a crypto wrapper, which means two dates run the show: the Sept. 11 CPI print and the Sept. 16 Fed decision. Thursday's $731 million day was the biggest since January, and Waller's earlier comments had already set this rally's tone. Now the flows wait on data again.

The inflows everyone ignores: the boring ones

The striking part is the contrast with conventional funds. Investors pulled $11.12 billion from US equity funds in the week ending Sept. 2, per LSEG Lipper data, with large-cap funds accounting for $7.52 billion of that, while money market funds absorbed $48.76 billion. Crypto ETFs took in $1.2 billion against that backdrop. Wall Street's cautious money sat in cash; its risk money bought the crypto wrappers anyway. That is either conviction or momentum, and the next CPI number will tell you which.

Check the data yourself at Farside Investors' daily flow tracker, the primary source for these figures. The honest caveat: weekly flows tell you where ETF market-makers parked inventory as much as what long-term holders believe, and one BlackRock-dominated Wednesday proves demand exists without proving durability. Still, the pattern held. Bitcoin ETF buyers came back after a $236 million outflow day, and even the bears concede inflows are the one demand signal that has not broken. If Sept. 11's CPI comes in soft, the following session's flow print will likely be the largest of the month. If it runs hot, you will learn how fast $986 million can reverse.
