Bio
Nischal Shetty is Co-Founder of Shardeum and Founder of WazirX. Shardeum is an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain launched to mainnet in late 2025, distinguished by its dynamic state sharding approach that aims to maintain a low, stable gas fee as the network grows. Shetty co-founded Shardeum with Omar Syed. WazirX was co-founded with Siddharth Menon and Sameer Mhatre in 2018 as one of India's largest cryptocurrency exchanges.
WazirX was acquired by Binance in 2019, though the exact terms and ongoing relationship between Binance and WazirX have been subject to public disputes. In July 2024, WazirX suffered a significant security exploit affecting approximately $230 million in assets from a multisig wallet. Following the exploit, WazirX undertook a Singapore restructuring process and restarted the platform in 2025, with partial creditor distributions ongoing. Recovery Tokens were issued as part of the creditor repayment process and do not represent guaranteed full recovery of user funds.
Before WazirX, Shetty founded Crowdfire, a social media management and marketing platform. He studied engineering in India. In 2026, Shetty serves as a board member of the Shardeum Foundation and continues involvement in the WazirX recovery and restructuring processes.
