Loi Luu is Founder of Caliber, a deep-tech and Web3 venture builder focused on AI and blockchain companies, and Chairman and Co-Founder of Kyber Network, the DeFi liquidity protocol. His current personal website identifies him as Chairman of Kyber Network, a step away from his previous CEO role.
Luu's academic background is in Computer Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he completed a PhD. His doctoral research covered smart-contract security, distributed consensus, and sharding — areas where he made early contributions including co-authoring Oyente, one of the first automated smart-contract security analysis tools. Credit for Oyente is shared with its co-authors, who contributed equally to the research.
He co-founded Kyber Network, a decentralized liquidity protocol, with Yaron Velner and Victor Tran. Kyber launched its mainnet in 2018 and became a significant liquidity aggregation protocol in the DeFi ecosystem before undergoing a governance evolution through KyberDAO and the KNC token. KyberSwap, a swap aggregator product, suffered a major exploit in November 2023 involving a reentrancy-style vulnerability; recovery efforts and legal proceedings followed. In 2026, Kyber Network and KyberSwap continue operating under the oversight of KyberDAO governance.
