Bio
Jeff Garzik is the CEO and Principal Engineer of Hemi Labs and the Co-Founder of Bloq. He is one of Bitcoin's earliest and most technically significant open-source contributors, having worked extensively on the Bitcoin Core codebase in the years after Satoshi Nakamoto's departure — though he is not a creator or founder of Bitcoin itself. His professional background spans Red Hat, where he contributed to Linux kernel development, and decades of open-source systems engineering.
In 2016, he co-founded Bloq with Matthew Roszak as a blockchain infrastructure and software company. He subsequently founded or led efforts that became Hemi Labs, where he currently serves as CEO and Principal Engineer. Hemi is a Bitcoin Layer-2 protocol that uses Bitcoin's proof-of-work security while supporting Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility, enabling developers to build applications secured by Bitcoin finality. As of August 2026, Hemi has reached mainnet status. Garzik has also been involved in space infrastructure through Bloq ecosystem ventures and continues to engage in technical commentary on Bitcoin development.
