Overview

The Trezor Safe 7 is SatoshiLabs' flagship premium hardware wallet and the spiritual successor to the Trezor Safe 5. Released in late 2025, it represents the most ambitious Trezor hardware to date — the world's first hardware wallet to use an auditable Secure Element, the TROPIC01, alongside a true three-chip defense and the industry's first post-quantum-ready firmware architecture.

Priced at $224–$249 (sale), the Safe 7 punches above its class with a 2.5" 520×380 px Gorilla Glass 3 color touchscreen (62% larger than the Safe 5), 700 nits of brightness, and precise haptic feedback — together with open-source Bluetooth 5.0+, Qi2 wireless charging, and a long-life LiFePO₄ battery. The IP54-rated aluminum unibody is milled from a single block of anodized aluminum.

Three independent chips sourced from three different vendors protect the wallet seed: the TROPIC01 auditable secure element (the first chip specifically designed to let anyone verify its security properties), an NDA-free EAL6+ Secure Element (Optiga), and a high-performance STM32U5G ARM Cortex-M33 microcontroller. Firmware updates, device authentication and the boot process are all guarded with post-quantum cryptography, defending your wallet against the quantum computing threats of the future.

The Safe 7 ships with the Trezor Suite (desktop and mobile) and is also compatible with 30+ third-party wallet apps (MetaMask, Exodus, MyEtherWallet, Backpack, Rabbit, Lace and others) and 70,000+ dApps including Uniswap, Jupiter, Aave, OpenSea, 1inch, Lido, and Pump.fun. Available in three editions: Charcoal Black, Obsidian Green, and Bitcoin-only (firmware-reduced attack surface).

Features & Benefits

2.5" Gorilla Glass 3 color touchscreen

The Safe 7's display measures 520×380 pixels at 700 nits of brightness — 62% larger than the Trezor Safe 5. Gorilla Glass 3 protects against scratches, damage and fingerprints, while precise haptic feedback gives you a reassuring touch with every interaction. Review transaction details and sign with crystal-clear confidence on Trezor's biggest, brightest display yet.

Machine-anodized aluminum unibody

Milled from a single block of aluminum, the Safe 7's body is reinforced with Gorilla Glass 3 front, NCVM-coated glass backplate (which preserves Bluetooth and wireless charging performance), and IP54-rated protection against water splashes and dust. The award-winning design is built to withstand years of everyday use.

Open-source encrypted Bluetooth 5.0+

Seamlessly manage crypto on any device with open-source encrypted Bluetooth. No cables are required for the first time on a Trezor — the Safe 7 pairs securely with mobile and desktop via Bluetooth 5.0+, while a USB-C cable is included for tethered use.

Qi2 wireless charging + long-life LiFePO₄ battery

The Safe 7 charges cable-free on any Qi2 wireless charging pad. The LiFePO₄ (lithium iron phosphate) battery (3.2V, 330mAh, built-in overheating protection) delivers 4× the charging cycles of standard lithium batteries and retains power for years even if stored away.

FIDO2 hardware 2FA

Use the Safe 7 as a hardware second-factor authentication key for services supporting FIDO2 — a phishing-resistant upgrade over SMS or app-based two-factor authentication.

Trezor Suite — your all-in-one crypto app

Buy, sell, swap and stake crypto directly in Trezor Suite on desktop and mobile. Coin control features prevent tracking of your wallet's data, and an optional Tor connection hides your identity and online activity. Connect your own Bitcoin full node for maximum privacy.

Advanced Multi-share Backup

Choose your backup format — 12, 20, or 24-word BIP-39. The Advanced Multi-share Backup splits your recovery phrase into multiple shares so no single card on its own reveals the seed. The box ships with two 20-word wallet backup cards.

Security Architecture

Three independent layers of hardware security

The Safe 7 is the first hardware wallet to defend your keys with three independent chips sourced from three different vendors. Security is not reliant on any single component:

  • TROPIC01 — the world's first auditable Secure Element, designed from the ground up to let anyone verify exactly how it protects your crypto.
  • Optiga — an NDA-free EAL6+ certified Secure Element providing an additional layer of physical protection.
  • STM32U5G — a high-performance ARM Cortex-M33 microcontroller (160 MHz) running the auditable open-source firmware.

World's first auditable Secure Element

The TROPIC01 chip is the headline feature of the Safe 7. Trezor believes in radical transparency — that means the chip's security properties are verifiable rather than hidden behind an NDA, the standard for the industry. This is the first time a Secure Element's design and operation can be independently audited.

Quantum-ready architecture

Post-quantum cryptography is used to secure firmware updates, device authentication, and the boot process. The Safe 7 is the first hardware wallet built to receive quantum-secure updates, defending against the quantum computing threats expected to emerge in the coming years.

Secure bootloader

The bootloader accepts only Shift-Crypto-signed firmware and prevents firmware downgrades. Edition-specific firmware (Charcoal Black, Obsidian Green or Bitcoin-only) will not run on a device than has a different edition, enforcing firmware integrity.

Open-source firmware & reproducibility

Trezor remains the standard-bearer for open-source hardware wallets. All firmware, the Trezor Suite app, and the security design are open to public review. Anyone can audit the code independently.

PIN protection up to 50 digits

The device PIN can extend up to 50 digits, dramatically increasing brute-force resistance. Repeated incorrect PIN attempts escalate device wipe timeouts per Trezor's standard protection scheme on the Safe series.

Tamper-evident design

The aluminum unibody milled from a single block — with Gorilla Glass 3 front and NCVM-coated glass back — is geometry-locked at the factory. Any attempt to disassemble the device leaves visible evidence.

Privacy by design

Trezor Suite supports coin control (preventing address-cluster tracking), Tor connectivity, and connection to your own Bitcoin full node so wallet history, balances and address queries never leak to Trezor's servers.

About SatoshiLabs / Trezor Company (Czech Republic)

About SatoshiLabs / Trezor Company

SatoshiLabs — operating through Trezor Company s.r.o. — is the Czech Republic-based creator of the world's first Bitcoin hardware wallet. Founded in 2013 by Pavol "Stick" Rusnák, Marek "Slush" Palatinus, and Alena Vranova, Trezor shipped the original Trezor One in 2014 and has been a foundational force in the open-source, self-custody hardware wallet movement ever since.

The Trezor product line now spans the Trezor Safe 3 (entry), Trezor Safe 5 (mid-range), the flagship Trezor Safe 7 (this review), and the Bitcoin-only editions across all models. Trezor also maintains Trezor Suite (desktop + mobile), Trezor Connect (developer API), and Trezor Education — one of crypto's largest publicly available knowledge bases.

Trezor is fundamentally open-source. Firmware, Trezor Suite, hardware schematics and security audits are all published for independent review. The Trezor Safe 7's TROPIC01 chip pushes this philosophy further than any competitor — making the Secure Element auditable, a first in the industry.

The Trezor Safe 7 has earned 4.9/5 from 35 verified buyer reviews and was named Best hardware wallet 2026 by The Block.
