Overview

The Ledger Nano Gen5 is Ledger's most affordable secure-touchscreen hardware wallet — unveiled at Ledger Op3n 2025 and priced at $179. It reinvents the button-driven 'Nano' series as a compact, everyday signer with a 2.8-inch E Ink® secure touchscreen, three-way connectivity (USB-C + Bluetooth + NFC) and the same Clear Signing + Transaction Check safety layer found in the premium Ledger Flex ($249) and Ledger Stax ($399).

A secure touchscreen at an accessible price. The 2.8-inch E Ink touchscreen is driven directly by the same EAL-certified Secure Element chip that protects your private keys, so what you see on the signer is exactly what the chip is approving. Clear Signing parses every transaction into human-readable language; Transaction Check screens the transaction against Ledger's threat database before you sign. Combined, these features block the common blind-signing attacks that cost users more than $2.2 billion in 2024 alone — and Ledger reports that Transaction Check has already intercepted over $20 million in potential scam losses.

The Nano Gen5 re-defines the 'Nano' line. The Nano S Plus ($59) and Nano X ($99) still ship for budget buyers who want a button-driven signer, but the Gen5 is the first Nano to offer a secure touchscreen, Clear Signing, Transaction Check, NFC, the encrypted Ledger Recovery Key included in the box, and a built-in battery with USB-C charging. It's compact and playful — available in four colorways including Cherry Red and Matcha Green — and supports personalization via collectible Badges and screen art from Ledger's Susan Kare collaboration.

Pros

  • Most affordable Ledger secure-touchscreen signer at $179 (Ledger Flex is $249, Stax is $399)
  • 2.8-inch E Ink® secure touchscreen at 300x400 px, scratch-resistant glass with anti-glare coating
  • Clear Signing parses every transaction into human-readable text on the signer before you tap to confirm
  • Ledger Transaction Check screens transactions against a live threat database — more than $20M of scam losses already intercepted
  • USB-C + Bluetooth + NFC connectivity (NFC tap-pair is new to this entry tier)
  • Compact 79.4mm x 53.3mm x 8.6mm body at 46 g — pocketable in any coin pocket
  • Four playful colorways including Cherry Red and Matcha Green along with Jet Black and Glacier White
  • Collectible Badges & screen art from the Susan Kare-designed pixel-art collaboration
  • 15,000+ crypto assets supported across 100+ blockchains through the Ledger Wallet™ app
  • In-app staking via 50+ providers including Figment, Kiln and Lido across major Proof-of-Stake chains
  • Real-time market alerts, integrated Earn Simulator, P&L tracking, and Cash-to-Stablecoin on-ramp
  • Ledger Recovery Key included in the box — PIN-protected encrypted backup card that restores to any Ledger device
  • Optional Ledger Recover™ paid subscription for Social Recovery of the seed using 2-of-3 Shamir Secret Sharing
  • Passkey support for X (Twitter), Discord, SSH and other services via the Ledger Security Key feature
  • Backed by Ledger — the world's largest hardware wallet vendor with 7M+ devices shipped and a 10-year operational track record

Cons

  • At $179 the Nano Gen5 is much more expensive than the button-driven Nano S Plus ($59) or Nano X ($99) it replaces as the entry Ledger — budget buyers can still get a Nano S Plus
  • E Ink monochrome touchscreen is dim and lower-contrast compared with the color E Ink displays on the premium Ledger Flex ($249) and Ledger Stax ($399)
  • Susan Kare collectible Badges and screen art accessories are sold separately and are not included in the box
  • Magnet shell / dock not included (unlike the Ledger Stax, which ships with a magnetic stackable shell)
  • NFC tap-to-sign is currently supported on modern Android phones; iOS NFC support for signing requires iOS 17.4 or later and a compatible Ledger app version
  • Optional Ledger Recover™ paid subscription adds an ongoing cost on top of the $179 device price if you want Social Recovery of your seed
  • Ledger Wallet™ mobile app UX is still early-generation since its 2025 rebrand — the older Ledger Live desktop app has more mature integrations for some third-party dApps
  • Transaction Check and Clear Signing require pairing with the Ledger Wallet™ app for the most up-to-date threat database — desktop-only users get a slimmer feature set

Features & Benefits

2.8-inch E Ink Secure Touchscreen

  • Compact signer with a 2.8-inch E Ink® secure touchscreen at 300×400 pixel resolution — gives you the same phone-like familiarity as Ledger's Flex and Stax, at lower prices.
  • Scratch-resistant glass and anti-glare coating — view transaction details comfortably inside and outside.
  • Driven directly by the EAL-certified Secure Element (Ledger OS™) — what you see on the signer's screen is exactly what the chip is approving, eliminating blind signing.
  • 79.4mm × 53.3mm × 8.6mm body, 46 g pocketable form factor in four colorways: Jet Black, Cherry Red, Matcha Green, Glacier White.

Clear Signing & Transaction Check

  • Clear Signing parses transaction details into human-readable language on the screen before you sign — no more guessing whether you're approving a token approval, a swap or a transfer.
  • Transaction Check screens every incoming transaction against Ledger's threat database before you confirm — Ledger reports more than $20 million in fraudulent-scam losses have already been blocked by Transaction Check in its first year.
  • Compared with the button-driven Nano S Plus ($59) and Nano X ($99), those two safety features were previously available only on the $249 Ledger Flex and $399 Ledger Stax.

Triple Connectivity — USB-C + Bluetooth + NFC

  • USB-C for desktop use via the Ledger Live desktop app on macOS, Windows and Linux.
  • Bluetooth for mobile-first pairing with the Ledger Wallet™ mobile app on iOS and Android.
  • NFC tap-to-pair shortcut on modern Android phones and the latest iPhones.
  • Built-in battery charged via USB-C; charges faster than the older Nano X.

Ledger Wallet™ + Ledger OS™

  • Pair with the new Ledger Wallet™ all-in-one app — send, receive, buy, sell, swap, stake and manage your login credentials all from one dashboard.
  • In-app staking via 50+ providers across 100+ Proof-of-Stake chains — Figment, Kiln, Lido, Lido Stashed, Aave (stablecoin yield) and many more.
  • Real-time market alerts, P&L, Earn Simulator portfolio projections and Cash-to-Stablecoin on-ramp from MoonPay and integrated providers.
  • Cross-chain swaps and swaps-to-stable with Ledger's neutral comparison layer — picks the best provider for your trade automatically.
  • Passkey and 2FA support for X (Twitter), Discord, SSH, and other supported accounts via the Ledger Security Key feature.

Ledger Recovery Key (in the box)

  • The Nano Gen5 is the first entry Ledger to include the Ledger Recovery Key in the box — a PIN-protected, encrypted backup card that restores your wallet to any Ledger device. The box also includes 3 paper Recovery Sheets for those who prefer a handwritten wallet backup.
  • Optional paid Ledger Recover™ subscription adds Social Recovery of your BIP39 seed using a 2-of-3 Shamir Secret Sharing scheme across three independent providers — fully self-custodial, encrypted, and recoverable from a single signing operation after identity verification.

Personalize with Colorways, Badges & Screen Art

  • Four vibrant colorways including a playful Cherry Red and Matcha Green — and Jet Black and Glacier White.
  • Collectible Badges & screen art from Ledger's Susan Kare collaboration let you personalize the back of the device with an iconic hand-drawn pixel icon.
  • Accessories sold separately — unlike the Ledger Stax, the Nano Gen5 ships in a basic box without a magnet shell.

About Ledger SAS (France)

Ledger is the largest hardware-wallet vendor in the world by installed base. Founded in 2014 and based in Paris, France, Ledger has shipped more than 7 million hardware wallets to users in 200+ countries. The company is also the security infrastructure partner behind major exchange custody, enterprise digital-asset programs and the popular Ledger Live / Ledger Wallet™ self-custody apps.

Ledger's hardware business is built around the proprietary Ledger OS™ — a dual-architecture operating system that pairs an EAL-certified Secure Element chip with an open-architecture application area that signing apps plug into. The Ledger OS Clear Signing layer is what powers the 'what you see is what you sign' guarantee on every Ledger touchscreen device.

The Ledger Nano Gen5 was unveiled at Ledger Op3n 2025, the company's annual flagship event. Positioned between the button-driven Ledger Nano S Plus ($59) and the premium Ledger Flex ($249), the Gen5 brings the secure touchscreen, Clear Signing, Transaction Check and Ledger Recovery Key technologies to the affordable everyday-signer tier for the first time. The flagship Ledger Stax ($399) sits above the Flex.
