Overview

The Ledger Flex is Ledger's premium E Ink touchscreen hardware wallet, launched in July 2024 at $249 USD. Built around the same CC EAL6+ certified Secure Element used in the flagship Ledger Stax, the Flex features a 2.84-inch curved E Ink touchscreen delivering Ledger's “What you see is what you sign” transparency — every transaction is reviewed and confirmed on a clear, energy-efficient display before it leaves the device.

The Flex pairs with iOS, Android, and desktop via USB-C and Bluetooth, opening up the full Ledger Wallet™ app ecosystem: send, receive, buy, trade, earn, track live P&L, and connect to 50+ top providers across 100+ chains. Inside the app, users can delegate to dApps via WalletConnect, sign FIDO2 passkeys to log in to web accounts with Ledger Security Key™, and even set their favorite NFTs or pictures as the lock-screen wallpaper — which, thanks to E Ink, remains visible even when the device is powered off.

In the box you get the Ledger Flex device, a USB-C cable, a recovery sheet, the new Ledger Recovery Key card (a tap-based, Secure Element + PIN-protected offline backup now included standard), and a magnetic folio for sleek, go-anywhere durability. For crypto users who want a premium, screen-first signing experience that rivals the flagship Stax without the flagship price, Ledger Flex is the answer.

Pros

  • Best-in-class CC EAL6+ Secure Element — the highest certification tier in any consumer hardware wallet
  • 2.84" curved E Ink touchscreen with "What you see is what you sign" transparency eliminates blind-signing risk
  • Always-on E Ink lock screen can display favorite NFTs or pictures even with the power off
  • Multi-device connectivity (USB-C + Bluetooth) covers desktop, iOS, and Android
  • Ledger Security Key™ turns the Flex into a phishing-resistant FIDO2 passkey for web logins
  • Industry-leading app ecosystem — Ledger Wallet™ app with 50+ providers across 100+ chains for buy, swap, stake, earn
  • Ledger Donjon in-house security lab continuously pen-tests the device family
  • Included Ledger Recovery Key card — tap-based, Secure Element + PIN-protected offline backup
  • Premium design and materials comparable to the flagship Ledger Stax at a more accessible $249 price point
  • Massive 8M+ customer base with a proven security track record since 2014

Cons

  • $249 entry price is mid-premium (vs $79–$149 Ledger Nano X / Nano S Plus alternatives from the same maker)
  • Bluetooth pairing on mobile requires the Ledger Wallet app — no fully air-gapped signing path on phone
  • Large E Ink touchscreen is more fragile (and more expensive to replace) than cheaper non-screen Nano models — magnetic folio recommended for daily carry
  • Optional Ledger Recover™ subscription (seedless recovery) is opt-in but controversial among self-custody purists and costs an additional monthly fee
  • Staking yields only available via Ledger-integrated providers (Kiln, Lido, Figment, etc.) — not arbitrary validators
  • Firmware and app updates sometimes require a desktop USB-C connection, interrupting mobile-only workflows
  • Some newer L1 chains fall back to blind signing until their Ledger app updates to support WYSIWYS decoding
  • No Qi wireless charging (available only on the flagship Ledger Stax, not on Flex)

Features & Benefits

2.84” curved E Ink touchscreen

“What you see is what you sign” — every transaction is rendered on a clear, energy-efficient E Ink display for your review and confirmation on-device before it leaves the wallet.

Always-on lock screen with NFTs & pictures

Personalize the device by setting your favorite NFTs or images as lock-screen wallpaper. The E Ink display stays visible even when the power is off.

Multi-device connectivity

Connect to iOS, Android, or your desktop computer via USB-C or Bluetooth — the same device works at the desk and on the go.

Magnetic Folio Protection

A stylish magnetic folio accessory (sold separately and bundled in select editions) gives sleek, go-anywhere durability for daily carry.

Ledger Security Key™ (FIDO2 passkeys)

Install the free Ledger Security Key app and use the Flex as a phishing-resistant FIDO2 passkey to log in to your favorite accounts — no passwords to remember or phish.

Ledger Wallet™ app ecosystem

Send, receive, buy, trade, and earn with live P&L insights and live market alerts. 50+ top providers (Moonpay, PayPal, Coinbase, Lido, Kiln, Figment and more) are integrated across 100+ chains.

Ledger Earn / Earn Simulator

Compare stablecoin yield, midas investment strategies, and validator staking options — and simulate your portfolio’s potential — all signed on-device.

Ledger Recovery Key (included standard)

A tap-based, Secure Element and PIN-protected offline backup card that lets you restore access to your assets with a quick tap — no seed phrase juggling required.

Optional Ledger Recover™ subscription

An opt-in, audited, encrypted subscription (developed with Coincover) that lets you recover access without your seed phrase, governed by a threshold-key scheme.

Security Architecture

Ledger Flex inherits the security architecture that has made Ledger the world’s most-trusted hardware wallet brand, trusted by more than 8 million customers across 200+ countries:

  • CC EAL6+ certified Secure Element — private keys are isolated inside a Common Criteria EAL6+ certified secure chip, the highest certification tier used in any consumer hardware wallet on the market.
  • Ledger OS™ custom operating system — a purpose-built OS that boots the Secure Element, runs only Ledger-signed apps, and isolates each app so a vulnerability in one coin app cannot compromise another.
  • “What you see is what you sign” — every transaction is rendered on the 2.84” E Ink touchscreen for your visual review and on-device confirmation before the signed transaction leaves the Secure Element. This closes the blind-signing attack vector that software wallets cannot defend against.
  • On-device WalletConnect decoding — when connecting to a dApp via Ledger Wallet, transaction metadata is decoded and shown on the E Ink screen for your approval — protecting against malicious dApp payloads.
  • Ledger Security Key™ (FIDO2 passkeys) — the same Secure Element can sign phishing-resistant FIDO2 passkeys to log in to web accounts, eliminating password risk on supported services.
  • Tamper-evident packaging & secure boot — each new device ships in tamper-evident packaging and verifies its firmware signature on every boot; tampered or unofficially flashed firmware will not run.
  • Ledger Donjon — Ledger’s in-house security research lab continuously attacks Ledger devices to find and patch vulnerabilities before they can be exploited in the wild.
  • Audited code — Ledger’s device firmware and apps are independently audited by leading third-party security firms before release.

About Ledger (France)

Ledger is a Paris-based blockchain-security company founded in 2014 by a team of eight led by entrepreneur Eric Larchevêque (CEO 2014–2019). The company pioneered consumer hardware-wallet design with the original Ledger Nano (2014), the mass-market Ledger Nano S (2016 — one of the first sub-$100 hardware wallets to ship over a million units), the Bluetooth-enabled Ledger Nano X (2019), the flagship OLED-touch Ledger Stax (designed in collaboration with Tony Fadell, 2023), and the premium E Ink Ledger Flex (July 2024).

Headquartered in Paris, France, with offices in New York, London, and Vierzon, Ledger has shipped more than 8 million hardware wallets across 200+ countries and protects an estimated 20% of the world’s crypto assets under self-custody. Alongside the consumer hardware business, Ledger Enterprise serves institutions (banks, custodians, exchanges) with HSM-backed custody solutions, and the Ledger Live / Ledger Wallet consumer app integrates buying, swapping, staking, and earn products with 50+ third-party providers across 100+ chains.

Ledger’s security-first culture is anchored by Ledger Donjon, the company’s in-house attack lab that continuously pen-tests its own devices, and Ledger Recover (developed with Coincover), an opt-in subscription service that lets users recover access to assets without their seed phrase via an audited threshold-key scheme.
