Exodus has spent more than a decade selling self-custody, and Exodus Pay is its attempt to make that custody useful day to day. The card is a free virtual debit card that spends from your Exodus Pay balance, sits in Apple Pay or Google Pay, and earns rewards in real time rather than once a month.
Self-custody as the differentiator
Most payment apps hold your balance for you. Exodus Pay keeps funds in your custody until you send or spend them, and the app is set up with a passkey and Face ID in under two minutes. You can send money to a phone number with no fees, and top up by debit card, Apple Pay, QR code, or by sending USDC or USDT - free for a limited time. Exodus says the card works anywhere debit is accepted, with cashback accruing by the second, and the company quotes a 4.7 rating across 118,000 app reviews.
The track record
Exodus Movement, Inc. is publicly listed on the NYSE under EXOD, which is unusual in this category and a large part of why the listing sits at Tier-2 in our crypto card directory. The trade-off is transparency about scope: Exodus states plainly that swap and card services are provided through third-party providers, with their terms applying, so the card is a partner programme wrapped in Exodus's app rather than an Exodus-issued instrument. The cashback rate itself is not published either, only that rewards accrue continuously.
How it compares
For readers weighing a self-custodial balance against a conventional crypto card, our crypto wallet directory covers the custody side, and the hardware wallet directory covers pairing Exodus with a Trezor or Ledger device.
