Strive CEO Says Bitcoin's Next Cycle Could Be Its Strongest Ever

Strive CEO Says Bitcoin's Next Cycle Could Be Its Strongest Ever
Strive CEO Matt Cole says Bitcoin's next cycle could be its strongest ever, citing institutional adoption, ETF inflows and macroeconomic tailwinds as key drivers.

Strive Asset Management CEO Matt Cole said Bitcoin's next cycle could be its strongest ever, arguing that a combination of institutional adoption, regulatory clarity and macroeconomic conditions is creating a foundation for sustained price growth.

The Bull Case

Cole's thesis centers on the convergence of several factors: the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs that opened the asset class to institutional capital, growing corporate treasury adoption led by Strategy's 840,447 BTC holdings, and macroeconomic conditions including Treasury liquidity expansion and dollar weakness that have historically benefited scarce assets.

Bitcoin's recent rally from approximately $62,679 on Aug. 17 to $79,500 on Aug. 21 demonstrated the kind of explosive upside that draws attention to the asset. While the price has since pulled back toward $77,000, the 27% weekly gain from the low represented one of the strongest moves since 2024.

What Makes This Cycle Different

The current market structure differs from previous Bitcoin cycles in several ways. Spot Bitcoin ETFs have created a regulated channel for institutional investment, with five-session inflows reaching $1.92 billion during the latest rally. This represents genuine spot demand alongside the derivatives-driven short covering that accelerated the initial move.

Corporate adoption has also reached a scale not seen in previous cycles. Strategy's position represents approximately 4% of Bitcoin's maximum supply, and other public companies have begun adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets. The establishment of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve through executive order has further legitimized Bitcoin as a reserve asset at the sovereign level.

Macroeconomic Tailwinds

The Treasury's announcement that it would double long-dated buyback operations from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation beginning Sept. 9 has changed the macro backdrop. Long-term Treasury yields declined after the announcement, the dollar weakened, and Bitcoin rallied alongside gold and other scarce assets.

A Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland working paper published in July found that information about Bitcoin's previous gains can change how much cryptocurrency U.S. households want to own and whether they subsequently buy it. The study found that showing households Bitcoin's trailing returns raised desired crypto allocations by 47%, supporting the idea that price momentum can create a feedback loop of new demand.

Risks to Consider

Despite the bullish case, several risks remain. Bitcoin's price remains well below its all-time high, and previous rallies have been followed by sharp corrections. The current rally was partly driven by forced short covering, which can reverse quickly. Regulatory uncertainty persists, and the macroeconomic environment could shift if inflation expectations change or if the Federal Reserve adjusts its policy stance.

Cole's prediction represents a directional view rather than a guarantee. Bitcoin's history has been marked by cycles of euphoria followed by extended drawdowns, and investors should consider both the bull case and the structural risks before making investment decisions.
