Chainlink has made six official U.S. economic data feeds — covering GDP, inflation and private domestic demand — available across 10 public blockchains, giving smart contracts direct access to the government figures that move global markets and letting onchain applications react to macroeconomic data without any manual input.
The arrangement puts the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis data onchain through Chainlink's oracle infrastructure. The program covers real gross domestic product, the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers, with each indicator served through two feeds: one reporting the current level and one showing the quarter-over-quarter change at an annualized rate.
Chainlink feeds put BEA data onchain
The data is initially live on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Linea, Mantle, Optimism, Sonic and ZKsync, with additional networks possible on demand. Chainlink drew fresh attention to the arrangement with a Sept. 1 post on X (Twitter):
The indicator choices matter beyond their names. The PCE Price Index is the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge when assessing progress toward its 2% target — meaning the same numbers driving rate decisions are now readable by smart contracts. Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers excludes government spending, exports and inventory changes, offering a focused read on private-sector demand. Real GDP is reported in billions of chained 2017 dollars alongside its seasonally adjusted annualized growth rate.
Although the spotlight is new, the feeds were first announced in August 2025, when the Commerce Department worked with both Chainlink and Pyth Network to bring selected BEA data onchain. The department separately published a cryptographic hash of its second-quarter GDP report across nine networks that same month, with Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken helping distribute the information — Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick calling the effort a way to make "America's economic truth immutable and globally accessible."
What smart contracts can do with GDP
Oracle networks exist because blockchains cannot retrieve outside information on their own. With direct access to official BEA figures, Chainlink sees applications in inflation-linked digital assets, prediction markets, perpetual futures and automated trading products — a prediction market could settle a GDP contract against the official feed, a lending protocol could tighten risk parameters the moment consumer demand weakens, and dashboards could update without anyone typing numbers in. Those remain identified use cases rather than launched products, and the feeds do not release data earlier than the government's own channels: updates follow the BEA publication schedule exactly.
The delivery layer has certifications behind it — Chainlink says its feed infrastructure carries ISO 27001 certification and a SOC 2 Type 1 attestation — though such credentials cover the information-security processes, not the smart-contract or market risks of any application built on top.
Chainlink expands deeper into tokenized finance
The macroeconomic feeds extend a deliberate push into real-world financial data. On Aug. 26, Chainlink introduced price feeds for Coinbase-issued tokenized shares of Nvidia, Apple, Meta and Alphabet on Base, letting lending applications calculate collateral values, borrowing limits and liquidation thresholds for tokenized stocks. The direction has analysts paying attention: Standard Chartered set a $200 target for LINK by the end of 2030 in an Aug. 10 research note, basing the forecast partly on growth in tokenized financial infrastructure.
The bigger picture is an emerging standard for how onchain finance consumes truth. As BIS researchers explore ledgers for data verification and the SEC writes rules for onchain securities records, Chainlink's government data feeds occupy the same connective tissue: the infrastructure that decides which numbers a blockchain is allowed to believe. Whoever operates that layer holds quiet but significant power over every market built on top of it.
