Bitcoin Flat at $64,000 as South Korea's Record Kospi Surge Leaves Crypto Markets Unmoved
Bitcoin held near $64,300 while South Korea's Kospi surged 17%, as crypto markets remained detached from the biggest equity rally of the year.

A sudden flash of buying activity during early Asian trading hours briefly propelled Bitcoin to $65,300, raising hopes among traders for a momentum-driven breakout. However, the upward move proved short-lived. Within an hour, selling pressure erased the gains, returning the flagship cryptocurrency to a familiar holding pattern near $64,300. The quiet consolidation across digital asset markets unfolded alongside a dramatic surge in global stock exchanges, where equity investors celebrated one of the sharpest rebounds of the year. Yet, despite massive capital flowing back into equities and technology shares, cryptocurrency markets remained mostly indifferent, standing still while traditional markets rallied.

The centerpiece of Friday's market action occurred in South Korea, where the benchmark Kospi index staged a historic recovery by surging as much as 17%. The explosive rally offered immediate relief after a devastating three-day selloff that had dragged the Kospi more than 40% below its peak recorded in June. Semiconductor heavyweights served as the primary growth engine for the benchmark index. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both surged by more than 23%, while Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) advanced 10%. Together, these mega-cap chipmakers spearheaded a broad Asian stock market advance.

Global Chip Rally Spills Over from Wall Street

The record-setting surge in Asian semiconductor stocks drew strong momentum from overnight trading on Wall Street, where U.S. chipmakers recorded their largest single-day rally in more than a year. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 snapped a six-day losing streak, boosted by high-profile corporate earnings. Amazon led after-hours trading, jumping nearly 10% on robust cloud computing revenue. In contrast, Apple shares declined 6% as supply shortages forced management to issue a cautious sales forecast.

Throughout July, Bitcoin had maintained a tight positive correlation with the global semiconductor trade, rising and falling with major chipmakers. However, that historical link has broken down in recent sessions. Bitcoin held firm through last Thursday's $797 billion market valuation drop across U.S. megacap technology stocks, and it similarly absorbed South Korea's record two-day crash midweek. Now, as equities stage a historic recovery, Bitcoin has sat out the rebound entirely, remaining anchored in its range.

Platforms like Bitnxt have been tracking these market movements, noting how digital assets have detached from traditional technology indexes during major macroeconomic shifts. This structural shift highlights how cryptocurrency markets can form independent support levels, continuing a trend seen when Bitcoin rose toward $64,000 amid Korea's record chip crash.

Major Altcoins Consolidate as BNB Outperforms

Across the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem, trading activity remained predominantly range-bound on Friday. Ether traded quietly at $1,907, while XRP held near $1.08, Solana settled at $74, and Dogecoin hovered at $0.07. Overall market liquidity was heavily concentrated in top-tier assets, with approximately $27 billion changing hands in Bitcoin and $7 billion traded in Ether. BNB stood as the clear exception among major cryptocurrencies, climbing 3% on the day to $590. This advance made BNB the only major digital asset to maintain a meaningful gain over the weekly period.

Looking at the broader seven-day picture, market performance stays soft across most categories. Hyperliquid's HYPE token has surrendered 5% over the past seven sessions, while Solana and XRP are each down by 3%. Bitcoin itself has posted a modest weekly loss of 2%. Conversely, Ether and Dogecoin have managed to stay in positive territory with slight weekly gains of 1% each.

Derivative markets reflect a cautious stance among traders. Leverage across major exchanges remains subdued following prior volatility spikes, such as the dramatic liquidations seen when $286 million was wiped in Bitcoin and Ether liquidations. This caution is further reinforced by macroeconomic factors, with traders drawing parallels to earlier sessions when Bitcoin slipped below $64K before key Fed decisions.

Coldcard Flaw Exploit Drains 594 BTC

While spot trading remained muted on exchanges, security concerns emerged within the cryptocurrency storage sector. A critical security flaw affecting certain Coldcard hardware wallets enabled malicious actors to exploit vulnerable devices and drain roughly 594 Bitcoin. At current spot market valuations, the compromised funds represent a loss of approximately $38 million.

Remarkably, the multi-million-dollar exploit failed to trigger any visible negative impact on Bitcoin's broader spot market price. The market absorbed the news without experiencing forced liquidations or order book slippage, illustrating current structural stability in the face of security headlines.

Currencies and Commodities Shift on BOJ Policy

In global foreign exchange markets, the Japanese yen experienced renewed selling pressure, giving back a portion of its gains from Thursday. That previous session had marked the yen's largest single-day gain against the U.S. dollar in more than two years, following direct intervention by Japanese authorities. However, the currency extended its losses after the Bank of Japan elected to leave benchmark interest rates unchanged at its policy meeting.

Elsewhere in macro markets, U.S. Treasuries gained ground alongside a stronger U.S. dollar, reflecting steady demand for safe-haven assets. Meanwhile, crude oil futures extended their downward trajectory, weighed down by persistent demand concerns in energy markets.
