About Paul Frambot

Paul Frambot is the Co-Founder and CEO of Morpho, a permissionless lending and credit-market infrastructure protocol built primarily on Ethereum. He co-founded Morpho in 2021 alongside Merlin Egalite, Julien Thomas, and Mathis Gontier Delaunay. Frambot began working on Morpho while studying at Institut Polytechnique de Paris, bringing a technology and mathematics background to the design of decentralized lending primitives.

The founding motivation behind Morpho addressed limitations in existing DeFi lending models, particularly inefficiencies in peer-to-pool lending systems where interest rates are determined algorithmically rather than through direct matching. The team designed infrastructure intended to provide more transparent, modular, and composable lending markets as a foundation for other DeFi products and institutional participants to build upon.

As CEO, Frambot leads the development organization, product strategy, and external positioning of Morpho. By 2026, Morpho had expanded beyond its original optimization-layer model to offer standalone Morpho Markets and Morpho Vaults, which provide curated lending exposure managed by third-party curators. The protocol also established institutional access through integration partners such as Anchorage Digital.

Morpho: Open Lending Infrastructure

Morpho operates as permissionless onchain lending infrastructure. Its architecture is built around two primary components: Morpho Markets (isolated lending pairs with specific collateral and loan assets) and Morpho Vaults (curated collections of markets managed by independent risk curators). This design separates the core protocol layer from curation and risk management, allowing lenders, borrowers, and integrators to interact with lending infrastructure without requiring a central governance body to approve each asset pair.

The original Morpho Optimizer product, which sat on top of Aave and Compound to improve yield matching, represented an earlier phase of the project. The current architecture reflects a more fundamental approach to permissionless lending infrastructure rather than an optimization layer. Curators — independent entities that manage vaults — play a key role in the ecosystem by selecting which markets to include and managing risk parameters. Lenders bear the credit and smart-contract risk associated with the markets they participate in; Morpho as a company does not guarantee or insure user funds.

Morpho's governance and protocol control involve the development organization alongside on-chain governance mechanisms. The company has pursued institutional partnerships to expand access to its lending infrastructure beyond retail DeFi participants.

Key Contributions

Morpho Co-Founding

Co-founded Morpho in 2021 with Merlin Egalite, Julien Thomas, and Mathis Gontier Delaunay, building a team and vision for permissionless lending infrastructure.

Permissionless Market Design

Led the design of Morpho Markets — isolated, permissionless lending pairs that allow any asset combination without centralized governance approval, expanding DeFi credit access.

Vault & Curator Model

Advanced the Morpho Vault architecture separating core protocol from curation layer, enabling independent risk managers to offer curated lending exposure to institutional and retail users.

Institutional Integration

Led partnerships enabling institutional access to Morpho lending infrastructure, including integrations with regulated custody and financial services providers.

Open Credit Infrastructure

Contributed to the broader DeFi thesis that credit-market infrastructure should be open, composable, and auditable, influencing how subsequent onchain lending protocols are architected.

Why Paul Frambot Matters in Crypto

Morpho addresses a fundamental challenge in DeFi lending: the tension between capital efficiency, permissionlessness, and risk management. By separating the core protocol from the curation layer, Morpho created a model that allows lending infrastructure to remain open while enabling sophisticated participants to manage risk on top of it. Frambot's leadership in building this architecture — and in pursuing institutional adoption through regulated custody integrations — has positioned Morpho as a significant participant in the intersection of DeFi and institutional finance. The project demonstrates how permissionless primitives can serve both retail DeFi users and institutional lenders within the same protocol framework.
