Bio
Nic Carter is a crypto investor, researcher and entrepreneur best known as a Founding Partner at Castle Island Ventures and a co-founder of Coin Metrics. Before launching Castle Island, he worked at Fidelity Investments as its first cryptoasset analyst, researching public blockchains and cryptoasset markets. Coin Metrics emerged in 2017 from an open-source effort — co-founded with software engineer Aleksei Nokhrin — to improve the measurement and analysis of public blockchain networks, and later developed into institutional-grade crypto data infrastructure. In 2018, Carter and fellow Fidelity alum Matt Walsh founded Castle Island Ventures, an early-stage venture firm investing at the intersection of public blockchains and traditional financial infrastructure. Carter has also become a prominent researcher and writer on Bitcoin, stablecoins, Proof of Work, blockchain economics and crypto market structure, and co-hosts the On The Brink podcast. His current personal biography notes that Coin Metrics was acquired by Talos Trading in 2025.
