Bio
Mingchao “Fisher” Yu is Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Babylon Labs, the company developing the Babylon Bitcoin staking protocol. Babylon's core innovation is enabling native Bitcoin holders to stake their BTC to provide economic security to proof-of-stake networks — called Bitcoin Secured Networks (BSNs) — without wrapping, bridging, or transferring custody of their Bitcoin. The protocol uses Bitcoin's scripting capabilities and cryptographic finality mechanisms to achieve this slashable staking design.
Before co-founding Babylon Labs, Yu's background includes engineering and research roles at Dolby Laboratories, according to public biographies. The Babylon founding team includes David Tse, a Stanford professor and information theory researcher who co-founded Babylon and has been central to its cryptographic protocol design. Yu and Tse's collaboration combines academic cryptography research with engineering execution.
Babylon Genesis, the Babylon chain, launched as a platform that serves as the coordination layer for BTC staking and the BSN ecosystem. BABY is the native token of the Babylon chain, used for governance and network operations. BTC staking through Babylon involves cryptographic commitment by the staker and slashing conditions enforced by the protocol — staked BTC is locked in a self-custodial UTXO with a timelocked script, meaning users retain key control but accept slashing risk under certain conditions. Yu has emphasized that Babylon's approach differs fundamentally from wrapped BTC or custodial staking. In 2026, Babylon Labs continues developing its protocol, ecosystem integrations, and finality provider infrastructure.
