Kosala Hemachandra is Founder and CEO of MyEtherWallet (MEW), one of the most widely used open-source, self-custodial interfaces for interacting with the Ethereum blockchain. MEW was launched in August 2015, shortly after Ethereum's mainnet went live, with the original Ether Wallet Generator posted on August 11, 2015. The project was designed to give users a way to manage Ethereum keys and interact with the network without running a full node — a significant usability improvement for the ecosystem at the time.
Hemachandra studied Computer Engineering at California State University, Northridge. His background in software engineering led him to the Ethereum ecosystem in its earliest days. MEW began as a simple web-based key generator and grew into a comprehensive self-custodial suite covering Ethereum and EVM-compatible networks, token management, staking, swaps, and decentralized application access.
Over the years, MEW's scope expanded significantly. The team launched Enkrypt, a multichain browser wallet supporting EVM chains, Bitcoin, Solana, and Polkadot/substrate-based networks, and continued developing MEW Wallet as the primary mobile product. MEW has not launched its own native token. The company earns revenue through swap and service fees. In 2026, MEW and Enkrypt remain active products under Hemachandra's leadership, with continued focus on self-custody, account recovery, and expanding support for tokenized real-world assets and TradFi-onchain integrations where live products exist.
