Erick Calderon, known by the artist name Snowfro, is the Founder and CEO of Art Blocks — the onchain generative art platform he launched in 2020 that became a defining institution of the NFT generative art movement. Calderon is both a technologist and a practicing digital artist; his Chromie Squiggle collection was Art Blocks' genesis project, and continues to hold cultural significance within the generative art community.
Art Blocks pioneered the model of "on-demand generative art" — where a collector mints an NFT and the unique output is generated algorithmically at the moment of minting using code stored permanently on the Ethereum blockchain. This approach guarantees that the generative script is immutable, publicly auditable, and verifiably onchain, distinguishing Art Blocks from platforms that store art off-chain.
What Art Blocks Does
Art Blocks is a platform and organization that supports and promotes onchain generative art. Artists submit algorithmic scripts; collectors mint unique outputs whose visual results are determined at the moment of purchase. Art Blocks' Curated program selects a limited number of high-quality projects through an editorial process; its other programs (Explorations, Presents, Engine) extend access to a wider range of generative artists and allow external organizations to use Art Blocks' infrastructure.

Chromie Squiggle
The Chromie Squiggle (Art Blocks project #0) was created by Calderon himself as a test and foundation piece for the platform.
