1975 — Sam Boyd Founds Boyd Gaming
Sam Boyd, a legendary Las Vegas gaming figure, founded Boyd Gaming Corporation, opening his first property in downtown Las Vegas. Sam had been involved in Las Vegas gaming since the 1940s, working his way up from dealer to casino manager before founding his own company.
1979 — California Hotel Opens
Boyd opened the California Hotel & Casino in Downtown Las Vegas, which would become famous for its strong Hawaiian customer base — a market segment Boyd cultivated through direct flights from Hawaii.
1985 — Sam's Town Opens
Boyd opened Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall on Boulder Highway in Las Vegas, named after founder Sam Boyd. The property became a popular locals destination and remains a Boyd flagship.

2004 — Delta Downs Acquisition
Boyd acquired Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino in Vinton, Louisiana, expanding its regional presence into the South.
2006 — Downturn Acquisition Strategy
During the gaming industry downturn, Boyd made strategic acquisitions including the IP Casino Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi (2011) and other regional properties at attractive valuations.
2016 — Aliante Acquisition
Boyd acquired Aliante Casino + Hotel in North Las Vegas for $380 million, expanding its Las Vegas locals portfolio. The property was rebranded as Aliante Casino + Hotel.
2018 — FanDuel Partnership
Following the Supreme Court's PASPA ruling, Boyd entered into a strategic partnership with FanDuel, taking a non-controlling equity stake and establishing market-access agreements for sports betting and iCasino.
2019 — Valley Forge Acquisition
Boyd acquired Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania for $281 million, adding its first Pennsylvania property and expanding its East Coast presence.
2022 — Sky River Casino Opens
Sky River Casino, managed by Boyd Gaming, opened in Elk Grove, California. The tribal casino has been highly successful, driving strong growth in Boyd's management fee segment.
2024 — Record Financial Performance
Boyd reported $3.9 billion in revenue for 2024, with the strongest balance sheet in the company's history and property-level operating margins exceeding 40%. The company returned nearly $750 million to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases.
2025 — 50th Anniversary
On January 1, 2025, Boyd Gaming celebrated its 50th anniversary — a milestone marking its transformation from a single downtown Las Vegas property into one of the largest and most respected gaming companies in the United States.
