Overview
Coinbase staking is designed around convenience rather than self-operated validators. Eligible users can stake supported assets from their Coinbase balances while Coinbase handles the underlying staking process.
The platform uses asset-specific rules rather than one universal staking structure. This means APY, minimum balance, payout frequency and unstaking time can differ substantially between ETH, SOL, ADA, ATOM and other supported assets.
For this reason, users should compare individual assets rather than relying on a single Coinbase-wide APY.
Coinbase Staking Snapshot — Last Verified September 16, 2026
| Asset | Estimated APY | Minimum Balance | Typical Reward Payout | Estimated Standard Unstaking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ETH | 1.70% | No minimum | Every 3 days | ~10 days |
| SOL | 3.38% | $1 worth of SOL | Every 5 days | ~5 days |
| ADA | 1.38% | $1 worth of ADA | Every 5 days | ~2 days |
| AVAX | 3.44% | No minimum | Every 4 days | ~9 days |
| DOT | 2.00% | No minimum | Every 1 day | ~4 days |
| ATOM | 13.31% | 0.0001 ATOM | Every 7 days | ~25 days |
| XTZ | 2.88% | 0.0001 XTZ | Every 3 days | ~2 days |
APYs are variable and can change after publication. Last verified September 16, 2026. A higher APY (e.g. ATOM) does not automatically make an asset better — token price, inflation, network economics and risks differ by asset.
Rewards and Rates
There is no single Coinbase staking APY. Each supported asset has its own variable reward rate. Coinbase states that APYs shown to users reflect rewards after its commission.
Supported Assets
- ETH (Ethereum)
- SOL (Solana)
- ADA (Cardano)
- AVAX (Avalanche)
- DOT (Polkadot)
- ATOM (Cosmos)
- XTZ (Tezos)
Fees
Coinbase does not currently charge a separate transaction fee to start staking or use standard unstaking. Instead, Coinbase takes a commission from network staking rewards.
Its current fee documentation lists a standard 35% staking commission for: ADA, ATOM, DOT, ETH, POL/MATIC, SOL, and XTZ. Coinbase states that APYs shown to users reflect rewards after its commission.
The 35% figure should not be automatically applied to AVAX or another asset unless Coinbase's current fee documentation explicitly confirms it.
Minimum Stake
Minimum balances vary by asset:
- ETH, DOT, AVAX: No listed minimum balance
- SOL, ADA: Approximately $1 worth
- ATOM: 0.0001 ATOM
- XTZ: 0.0001 XTZ
Custody and Liquidity
Coinbase staking is custodial because the assets are held within a Coinbase account while the staking service operates. Coinbase states that customers retain ownership of their staked crypto, but staked assets generally cannot be sold or transferred until the applicable unstaking process completes.
This differs from self-custodial liquid staking protocols where users directly hold an on-chain liquid staking token.
Unstaking / Redemption
Standard unstaking follows network-specific waiting periods plus Coinbase processing time. Estimated periods vary considerably by asset:
- ADA, XTZ: ~2 days
- SOL: ~5 days
- ETH: ~10 days
- ATOM: ~25 days
Coinbase also offers instant unstaking for supported assets in some circumstances for an additional fee. The actual fee is displayed when the user requests instant unstaking. Instant unstaking may not always be available.
Important Risks and Limitations
- Custodial risk — assets are held within a Coinbase account
- Reward rates depend on the blockchain network and can change over time
- Staked assets generally cannot be sold or transferred until unstaking completes
- Coinbase staking is only available to eligible users in supported jurisdictions
- Not every Coinbase customer worldwide can stake every listed asset
Data Verification
Platform features, staking rates, fees and withdrawal conditions can change. Bitnxt checks platform information against official documentation and product pages. Numerical rates shown on this page were last verified on September 16, 2026. Users should confirm current rates and eligibility with the platform before staking.
