What Kontigo is
Kontigo describes itself as the stablecoin super app for emerging markets, and its central promise is unusually direct: earn up to 8% yield in USDC, get a stablecoin card with Bitcoin cashback, open a USDT credit line, invest in tokenised US stocks and hold an international account - all aimed at Latinos in Latin America and the United States. Contigo raised a $20m seed round with Coinbase Ventures, Soma Capital and Y Combinator among its backers, and reports 300,000+ app downloads plus 800+ business customers.
The card
The Kontigo Card is marketed as the first international USDC credit and debit card that pays yield. Spending earns cashback in Bitcoin, and the debit side draws on your digital dollar balance while the credit side provides a USDT credit line. It sits alongside Kontigo Cash, a self-custody wallet for sending, receiving and saving in USDC which the company describes as decentralised, so you control the money.
The product suite
Around the card, Kontigo offers Piggy Banks for goal-based saving, Kontigo AI, a Universal QR for local payments, and 30+ local and global payment methods for moving money in and out. For businesses it provides Kontigo Pay, a no-code USDC payment button that accepts recurring and instant international payments and settles in USDC, plus APIs and agents for smart routing, conversion, pay-ins, pay-outs and wallet checkout under docs.kontigo.lat.
Two things to weigh carefully
First, Kontigo does not publish its card fees, limits or card network anywhere on its site - for a product this ambitious that is a meaningful gap. Second, and more seriously, Kontigo froze US bank account services for its Venezuelan customers after its US-based banking provider ordered a temporary suspension, cutting off thousands of users who relied on the platform to hold and move dollars, with no stated date for resumption. The incident is a reminder that stablecoin neobanks depend on banking partners whose access can be withdrawn.
Kontigo builds on USDC for Venezuelan and Colombian users, with a self-custody dollar wallet and an international credit card attached. Meru offers a similar package of a US bank account, a European IBAN and a dollar-backed Visa, and Takenos serves the same region.
