Bitbuy is a Canadian cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2016 and headquartered in downtown Toronto. It is one of Canada's longest-running crypto platforms and is now part of Robinhood, following Robinhood's acquisition of Bitbuy's parent company WonderFi. The platform says it serves more than 900,000 Canadians and has processed over $7 billion CAD in trades.
Canada-First Regulation
Bitbuy is registered with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) as a registered marketplace and restricted dealer, and it is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business. For Canadian traders, that combination of provincial securities registration and federal anti-money-laundering registration is among the strongest oversight available from a domestic platform.
Two Ways to Trade
Bitbuy offers a simple Express Trade flow where the cost is built into the quote spread, and Pro Trade, an order-book interface with TradingView charting for users who want limit orders and tighter pricing. Pro Trade charges 0.50% maker and taker fees, while Express Trade spreads typically range from around 0.5% to 1.85% depending on the asset.
Funding in Canadian Dollars
Accounts are funded in CAD by Interac e-Transfer, bank wire, credit or debit card, and Apple Pay. Interac e-Transfer and bank-wire deposits are free, with Interac transfers starting at a $20 CAD minimum; wire withdrawals carry a 1.5% fee. Cryptocurrency deposits are free.
Beyond Spot Trading
Alongside spot trading in major assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, Dogecoin and Chainlink, Bitbuy offers staking on selected coins, an OTC desk (Bitbuy Alpha) for large orders, and iOS and Android apps that support both trading modes.
