The XRPL commodity tokenization market is drawing attention after reported figures placed the XRP Ledger ahead of Ethereum in year-to-date growth in tokenized commodity market capitalization.
The comparison, attributed to RWA Foundation and Token Terminal, puts XRPL’s increase at approximately $2.2 billion, against $1.6 billion for Ethereum. The development highlights an expanding role for energy-related assets on XRPL, although the headline requires a distinction: growth in tokenized asset value does not automatically establish an equivalent amount of fresh cash invested.
Direct data from RWA.xyz adds an important detail. Justoken’s JMWH, an electricity-related token, accounts for a substantial amount of asset value and transfer activity on the network. The emerging story is therefore about both growth and concentration.
What the XRPL commodity tokenization comparison measures
The reported ranking concerns the increase in commodity token market capitalization, rather than a ranking of every tokenized asset across all blockchains.
Alongside XRPL and Ethereum, the comparison lists Avalanche at approximately $334.5 million and BNB Chain at $57.5 million.
Blockchain | Reported 2026 commodity market-cap increase |
XRP Ledger | Approximately $2.2 billion |
Ethereum | Approximately $1.6 billion |
Avalanche | Approximately $334.5 million |
BNB Chain | Approximately $57.5 million |
These are reported growth figures attributed to the RWA Foundation/Token Terminal comparison. They should not be presented as independently reconciled cash inflows.
The distinction matters because changes in tokenized asset value can reflect issuance, valuation changes and changes in coverage. A market-cap comparison alone does not explain how much outside investment arrived or how actively the underlying assets trade.
The energy token behind the headline
RWA.xyz identifies JMWH as a Justoken-issued asset representing electricity-generation commitments. Its description states that each token represents one megawatt-hour of energy backed by energy companies.
When checked on October 7, the asset page displayed:
JMWH metric | Displayed value |
Total asset value | $2,229,136,800 |
Token supply | 37,152,280 |
Net asset value per token | $60 |
Holder addresses | 165 |
Monthly transfer volume | $7,021,672,530 |
Monthly transfer count | 208 |
RWA.xyz classifies JMWH as a represented commodity asset on the XRP Ledger. Its listed inception date is January 13, 2026.
The displayed valuation is internally consistent: 37,152,280 tokens multiplied by a $60 net asset value equals approximately $2.229 billion. That is an asset-valuation calculation; the page does not display a secondary-market trading price.
Justoken’s involvement also has corporate confirmation. In a March announcement, Ripple said the company already had more than $1.7 billion in assets tokenized on XRPL and would use Ripple Custody to develop infrastructure for natural-resource tokenization in Latin America. That earlier figure provides historical context, rather than a like-for-like measurement of JMWH today.
The $7 billion transfer figure needs context
XRPL’s RWA.xyz network page displayed $7.03 billion in 30-day RWA transfer volume, alongside $4.53 billion in represented asset value and $498.88 million in distributed asset value.
Its platform table also listed approximately $187.6 million for Ondo and $48.3 million for Franklin Templeton Benji Investments, showing activity beyond commodity assets.
JMWH’s displayed monthly transfer volume of roughly $7.022 billion is almost equal to the network’s $7.03 billion figure. This suggests substantial concentration in the energy asset, although matching dashboard windows and calculation methods would be necessary to establish its exact share.
Transfer volume also counts movement rather than unique capital. An asset transferred several times can contribute its value repeatedly. Consequently, the figure should not be described as $7 billion of fresh investment or exchange trading.
Why “represented” assets deserve separate treatment
RWA.xyz distinguishes between two forms of tokenization.
Distributed assets can move outside the issuing platform and transfer between wallets, potentially subject to eligibility restrictions. Represented assets cannot move outside that platform or transfer peer-to-peer under the framework; blockchain primarily supports recordkeeping and reconciliation.
This classification changes how the growth should be understood. A large represented asset can demonstrate institutional use of blockchain without providing open access, deep trading liquidity or integration with decentralized finance.
For readers assessing the market, the next questions concern the underlying rights: what holders own, how contractual commitments are enforced, and what redemption or transfer options are available.
What this means for XRP
Tokenized assets on XRPL and XRP itself are separate instruments. A dollar of commodity value recorded on the ledger does not imply a dollar spent buying XRP.
The figures strengthen the case that XRPL is finding applications beyond cryptocurrency transfers. Their significance for XRP’s valuation depends on how those applications affect sustained network use and demand for its native asset.
The commodity growth comparison also does not establish that XRPL has overtaken Ethereum across the entire RWA market. Such a conclusion would require a broader comparison using consistent asset categories and measurement rules.
Bitnxt view: the next test is breadth
Bitnxt’s editorial view: The noteworthy development is that electricity-related commitments now represent a sizeable blockchain use case. It expands the tokenization discussion beyond gold and government debt.
The next test is whether activity broadens across independent issuers and assets. A large headline valuation becomes more persuasive when accompanied by transparent contractual rights, repeat usage and meaningful transferability.
For now, the evidence supports a measured conclusion: XRPL has a significant energy-tokenization presence and reportedly leads this commodity growth comparison. Broader market leadership and direct benefits for XRP holders require additional evidence.
