The prediction-market boom has found its most consumer-friendly form factor yet. WaterX, an AI-native trading platform backed by Mysten Labs and selected for the Sui Foundation’s 2026 Moonshots Program, has launched WaterX Predict on the Sui blockchain — a prediction market that replaces orderbooks with a swipe feed, timed to catch the final stages of the 2026 World Cup.
Prediction Markets, Reimagined as a Dating App
The interface is the story. Instead of navigating markets, prices, and order types, users scroll a Tinder-style feed of events: swipe right or left to back a side, swipe up to skip. AI personalization surfaces markets each user is likely to care about. The explicit design goal, per the announcement, is reaching a completely different user than today’s on-chain prediction markets serve — someone who would never learn to trade but will happily swipe an opinion on a football match.
Two Onboarding Tricks Worth Noting
The friction-removal goes beyond the feed. First, the app uses Sui’s native zkLogin, letting users create accounts and hold positions with existing Google credentials — no wallet, no seed phrase. Second, and more novel, is “Gift Links”: any active position can be wrapped into a standard web link and dropped into a group chat or social feed, where a recipient claims ownership of the position with a single Google login. That turns a prediction from an isolated bet into a shareable social object — a distribution mechanic incumbent platforms don’t have, and arguably the release’s most interesting idea. A month-long “Predict Festival” around World Cup matches, with daily predictions earning rewards, provides the launch fuel.
The Context: Everyone Wants This Market
WaterX enters a sector in full land-grab mode. The World Cup alone has driven more than $5.4 billion in combined prediction volume across Polymarket and Kalshi, TxFlow just launched its own fully onchain challenger Probly, and Coinbase’s prediction product reportedly became its fastest-growing launch ever. WaterX’s differentiation is deliberately not liquidity or market breadth — it’s onboarding and virality, betting that Sui’s sub-second execution plus Google-login simplicity can reach the mainstream audience the category keeps promising to find. The announcement notes geographic restrictions apply per the platform’s terms, a nod to the regulatory scrutiny hanging over the entire sector as US states challenge incumbents and jurisdiction fights work through federal courts.
The open question is retention: swipe mechanics and gift links can manufacture a viral World Cup moment, but prediction markets live or die on whether casual users stay once the tournament ends. WaterX’s broader platform — spanning perps and tokenized real-world assets on the same personalized layer — suggests the answer it’s counting on: get them in with a swipe, keep them with a portfolio.
