Sui Goes Live With Gasless Stablecoin Transfers Built Directly Into Its Protocol — No Gas Token Needed — Stablecoins crypto news
Sui launched protocol-level gasless stablecoin transfers, allowing users to send stablecoins without paying gas fees or holding SUI, aiming to make stablecoin payments as simple as cash transfers.

Sui just removed one of the most persistent points of friction in on-chain payments. The network announced on X that gasless stablecoin transfers are now live, allowing users to move stablecoins with no gas fees and no gas token required. According to Odaily, the feature is built directly into the protocol rather than layered on top as a third-party add-on.

The pain point it targets is a familiar one. On most blockchains, sending a stablecoin still requires holding a separate native token to pay the network fee — so a user with a wallet full of dollars but no SUI (or ETH, or SOL) can find themselves unable to transact at all. That quirk has long been one of crypto's most confusing hurdles for newcomers and a genuine obstacle to using stablecoins as everyday money. By making transfers gasless at the base layer, Sui lets a stablecoin behave more like the cash it represents: you hold dollars, you send dollars, with nothing else required in the wallet.

Building the capability into the protocol itself is the notable part. Many chains offer 'gasless' experiences through relayers or paymaster contracts — workarounds that sponsor fees behind the scenes but add complexity and dependencies. A native, protocol-level implementation is cleaner and more reliable, signaling that Sui views frictionless stablecoin movement as core infrastructure rather than an optional feature. It also sharpens the network's pitch to payment apps, remittance services, and merchants, for whom 'no gas token needed' removes a real onboarding barrier.

The move fits a broader industry race to make stablecoins genuinely usable at scale, as networks compete to become the preferred rails for dollar-denominated tokens. Removing the gas-token requirement is a small change on paper with an outsized effect on user experience — and for Sui, it's a bid to position itself as one of the friendlier homes for the fast-growing stablecoin economy.
