SoFi Taps Kraken Prime and Lists SoFiUSD on Exchange

SoFi partners with Kraken Prime and lists SoFiUSD stablecoin on the Kraken exchange.

Summary :

  • Kraken parent Payward joins SoFi's real-time settlement network, SEN.

  • Kraken will list SoFiUSD, the bank-issued stablecoin, across its platform.

  • SoFi routes crypto orders through Kraken Prime for added liquidity.

  • Qualified custody may follow as the partnership expands.

  • SoFi's crypto unit booked $121.6M in Q1 revenue against $120.7M in costs.

SoFi Technologies and Kraken parent Payward have struck a partnership that puts SoFiUSD on Kraken's trading platform and connects the crypto exchange to SoFi's around-the-clock dollar settlement rails — the clearest sign yet that America's retail banking and crypto industries are fusing infrastructure rather than competing for the same customers.

Announced Sept. 3, the three-part arrangement runs in both directions. Payward joins the SoFi Exchange Network, known as SEN, giving eligible Kraken institutional customers access to round-the-clock U.S. dollar transfers that bypass traditional banking hours. SoFi will route digital asset orders placed through its app through Kraken Prime, which uses smart routing to compare prices and market depth across venues. And Kraken will list SoFiUSD — the bank-issued stablecoin backed one-to-one by dollars and launched to SoFi's roughly 15 million members in May — for retail, professional and institutional customers.

SoFiUSD meets Kraken's distribution

The SoFiUSD listing matters beyond one stablecoin. Bank-issued dollar tokens have largely lived inside their issuer's own application since launch; Kraken's listing gives SoFiUSD distribution outside its native app for the first time, exposing it to a trading population that measures in the millions. The companies did not disclose available trading pairs, supported deposit networks, initial liquidity or a precise listing time, and SoFi has previously said federal stablecoin rules may eventually require SoFiUSD to migrate to a separately licensed or regulated entity — a restructuring disclosed earlier and independent of the Payward agreement.

The settlement side is equally consequential. Digital asset platforms trade continuously, while conventional bank transfers remain tied to business days and scheduled processing — a mismatch that has cost crypto firms real money during weekend stress events. SEN removes that mismatch for Payward's institutional clients, who gain 24/7 liquidity management through SoFi's rails. Payward will also use SoFi's Big Business Banking division, the April-launched enterprise platform combining banking, payments and digital asset services that lets institutional clients manage U.S. dollars, SoFiUSD and selected digital assets in one place. Bank-issued stablecoins keep gaining institutional features, and Kraken's parent has been pushing deeper into regulated finance all year.

The economics behind the deal

Both companies are expanding from strength — and from necessity. SoFi's crypto business generated $121.6 million in transaction revenue in the first quarter of 2026, but related costs reached $120.7 million, leaving roughly $852,000 in net crypto transaction revenue: a business with big top-line crypto numbers and almost nothing on the bottom line. Routing orders through Kraken Prime's smart routing could improve execution pricing, though the final price customers see still depends on market conditions, order size, liquidity and fees. As Payward co-CEO David Ripley put it, the infrastructure behind the experience "should connect them to deep, liquid markets built to operate at scale."

Kraken, meanwhile, has grown beyond crypto trading into equities, derivatives and institutional prime brokerage, and the SEN connection gives it a banking-grade settlement layer that offshore competitors cannot easily replicate. SOFI shares closed near $18.51 on Sept. 3, up about 3.7%, though no verified evidence attributed the gain to the partnership alone. The companies said they could extend the relationship into payments, treasury services, lending and additional digital asset products — all prospective, with no deadlines. Kraken announced the listing on X (Twitter), and qualified custody services may follow as the relationship develops, though neither company named a custody entity or timetable.

The larger reading: the line between a neobank and a crypto exchange is disappearing one integration at a time. SoFi gets liquidity and a crypto-native execution partner; Kraken gets banking rails and a bank-issued stablecoin; and the customer on both ends gets a single financial relationship that quietly spans the old divide.
