Robinhood Chain Hits $945M Daily DEX Volume, Quietly

Robinhood Chain reaches $945 million in daily DEX trading volume.

Summary :

  • Robinhood Chain processed $945 million in daily DEX volume on Aug. 25.

  • The chain ranks fifth globally by 30-day DEX volume at $15 billion.

  • TVL surged from $4 million in June to roughly $1.4 billion by late August.

  • Tokenized stock volume on Uniswap passed $1 billion by Aug. 21.

  • A 90-day gas subsidy expires at the end of September, testing real demand.

Robinhood Chain has quietly become one of the busiest decentralized finance venues on earth, processing $945 million in daily DEX volume on Aug. 25 — nearly double its previous record — while the market's attention stayed fixed on memecoins and Fed headlines, missing the rise of the first brokerage-built chain to crack crypto's top five.

The record day was not a single-stat fluke. On Aug. 25 the network handled 5.5 million transactions, tokenized stock volume hit a record $85 million, and a leveraged perpetual token product called pTokens went live on Arcus, the dYdX-built exchange backed by Robinhood Crypto. Cumulative DEX volume has passed $47 billion in under two months since the chain's July 1 mainnet launch, placing it fifth among all chains by 30-day volume at roughly $15 billion — behind only Solana, BNB Chain, Ethereum and Base, and running about four times the volume of Arbitrum One, the very chain whose technology it forked.

How Robinhood Chain scaled so fast

The chain is an Ethereum layer-2 built on Arbitrum Orbit, settling directly to Ethereum with 100-millisecond block times — faster than Arbitrum One's 250 milliseconds — and using ETH for gas. The growth curve has been steep at every stage: Uniswap volume reached $500 million within eight days of launch, the chain processed 7.6 million daily transactions by July 11, topped Ethereum in 24-hour application revenue by the end of July, and briefly surpassed Base in daily active users with 324,000 wallets on July 21. Total value locked surged from $4 million in June to roughly $1.4 billion by late August — a trajectory no Ethereum layer-2 has matched at this stage of its lifecycle.

The attention gap is the story's most revealing feature. Robinhood Chain has no native token to speculate on, no pseudonymous founder, no viral whitepaper. It is financial plumbing built by a publicly traded brokerage many in crypto still distrust from the GameStop era, and infrastructure without a ticker simply does not trend. The volume, however, does not care about the discourse.

What is actually trading on the chain

Three activity categories converged on the record day. Memecoin speculation leads: Pons, a launchpad token, accounted for roughly half of all DEX volume at its peak, and on Aug. 30 contributed $445 million of the chain's $874.8 million — a concentration that means headline chain metrics can swing on a single token's popularity. Tokenized equities come second: Robinhood's flagship Stock Tokens offer ERC-20 representations of Nvidia, Apple, GameStop and SpaceX trading around the clock in more than 120 countries, and cumulative tokenized stock volume through Uniswap passed $1 billion by Aug. 21 — though a tokenized Nasdaq-100 tracker called QQQB drove 288% of July's tokenized equity volume, signaling heavy index concentration. Leveraged derivatives complete the mix: Arcus began accepting tokenized stock collateral at a 50% loan-to-value ratio with pTokens like pBTC3x and pHOOD3x wrapping leveraged positions into transferable tokens — a bridge between equity exposure and crypto leverage no other chain offers.

The macro tailwind mattered too. Bitcoin's rally since Aug. 17 — fueled by a record $2.7 billion short-liquidation wave, with Ether gaining nearly 29% in a single week — lifted activity everywhere, but Robinhood Chain's zero-fee environment made it the path of least resistance for traders rotating quickly between assets. The stablecoin layer underneath tells its own story: on-chain stablecoin market capitalization reached $640 million by late August, with Ethena's USDe supplying the bulk and Robinhood Earn anchoring capital with roughly 7% yield on USDG. USDG's multichain expansion keeps accelerating, and tokenized equities are drawing institutional rails worldwide.

The subsidy question nobody can dodge

The 90-day gas subsidy covering transaction fees runs through the end of September 2026, and it frames the only question that matters: does the volume survive when users start paying for their own trades? The chain's mix suggests some of it will — tokenized stock trading and staked-yield products create utility that outlasts free fees, and the brokerage's distribution funnel of millions of mainstream users has no equivalent in crypto. But half of daily volume riding on memecoins at zero cost is demand that free gas manufactured, not demand the market revealed. The answer arrives on October 1, and it will say more about the future of retail-facing chains than any record headline from August.
