Binance Launches US Stock Options With Physical Settlement

Binance launches US stock options with physical settlement for traders.

Summary :

  • Binance launched physically settled options on U.S. stocks and ETFs.

  • Buyers can purchase calls and puts but cannot write or short contracts.

  • Alpaca Securities handles clearing and custody; Nest Trading is the introducing broker.

  • Phase one supports limit orders during regular U.S. market hours only.

  • Funding accepts USDC, USDT, USD1, U and BNB balances.

Binance has launched Binance stock options, introducing physically settled contracts for selected U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs. Unlike cash-settled derivatives, these contracts are settled through actual shares that are held in custody, marking another step in the exchange’s expansion beyond crypto and toward a broader multi-asset strategy. Launched on September 1, the product allows eligible users to trade call options, which provide the right to purchase shares at a predetermined strike price, and put options, which provide the right to sell them. Each contract comes with a fixed expiration date, adding traditional equity derivatives to Binance’s growing range of financial products.

Physical settlement separates Binance stock options26

Physically settled options deliver the underlying shares when qualifying contracts are exercised, unlike cash-settled derivatives that close by paying the difference between strike price and settlement value. Exercised contracts settle through shares held by Alpaca Securities — a U.S.-regulated, self-clearing broker-dealer that also partnered with Binance for June's direct stock launch — with users monitoring resulting positions through Binance's stock trading interface and Funding Account. The contracts are conventional securities options, not tokenized stocks or crypto perpetuals: they follow U.S. market schedules and settle into underlying shares rather than blockchain tokens.

The brokerage structure is split deliberately. Nest Trading Limited, authorized by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Abu Dhabi Global Market, acts as the introducing broker through which users submit orders, while Alpaca handles execution, clearing and custody. Securities activity stays inside regulated brokerage entities even though customers access everything from a Binance account — an arrangement that lets the exchange market traditional products globally without becoming a U.S. clearing broker itself. Binance has not published a complete list of supported securities; users must open a stock's price page and check for an Options tab.

Long-only design caps buyer risk at premiums

The initial product is long-only: users can buy calls and puts but cannot write options or open uncovered short positions, removing the open-ended loss profile that makes options selling dangerous for retail traders. For buyers, the maximum direct loss is the premium paid, though a contract can expire worthless if the underlying price never moves sufficiently beyond its strike. Defined losses do not make options low-risk — contract values depend on share price, remaining time, expected volatility and interest rates, and can fall quickly. Users must complete an options suitability questionnaire and sign a disclaimer before trading, and customers who have not activated Binance's stock service can onboard for both products in one process.

Phase one supports limit orders only — traders specify the maximum price they will pay rather than submitting market orders — and most contracts trade between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Eastern, with certain ETF and exchange-traded note options open until 4:15 p.m. Pre-market and after-hours trading are generally unsupported, and unfilled orders sit on the book during closures until markets reopen. Users fund the service through their Funding Account, Spot Account or Flexible Earn holdings, with supported assets including USDC, USDT, USD1, U and BNB, though final securities transactions process through the brokerage arrangement. The announcement does not list eligible countries, and Binance warns the product may be unavailable in some regions.

The multi-asset strategy keeps compounding

The options launch builds on evidence that Binance's traditional-market bet is working. ETFs reached 25% of Gen Z equity trading volume on Binance during early August, and the exchange's direct-equities data covers a short period that Binance itself cautions does not yet establish a lasting trend. The move mirrors the industry's direction: Coinbase is pushing regulated derivatives across markets, the LSE is tokenizing UK stocks with Kraken's parent, and the question is no longer whether crypto exchanges will offer traditional finance but how much of it they can absorb.

The developments to watch are the addition of more underlying securities, broader order types and any expansion beyond long-only contracts — none with announced deadlines. For now, a crypto user can buy a Nvidia call, fund it with BNB and receive actual shares into a regulated custody account without leaving the exchange they use for altcoins. That sentence would have sounded absurd two years ago; today it is a product page.
