History and Founding
Founded in June 2016 as Monaco Technology GmbH, the company rebranded to Crypto.com in 2018 after acquiring its flagship domain. Headquartered in Singapore, the platform was established by Kris Marszalek, Rafael Melo, Gary Or, and Bobby Bao. Initially focused on cryptocurrency-linked payment cards, the firm has evolved into a global financial services giant with a workforce exceeding 4,000 employees.
The company has achieved significant scale through aggressive global expansion and high-profile marketing, reaching over 150 million users by early 2026. Its presence is cemented by major sports sponsorships, including a $700 million naming rights deal for the Crypto.com Arena, and partnerships with the UFC, Formula 1, and FIFA. These initiatives have positioned the brand as a mainstream bridge between digital assets and traditional consumer finance.
In the gaming and wagering sector, Crypto.com operates as a unique hybrid. Rather than a traditional offshore casino, it utilizes its CFTC-regulated subsidiary, Crypto.com Derivatives North America (CDNA), to offer legal sports event trading and prediction markets. This regulatory-first approach allows it to provide betting-adjacent services in jurisdictions where traditional online gambling faces stricter hurdles, particularly within the United States.
