Fractal (fractal.is) is a Solana-based NFT marketplace focused exclusively on gaming — launched December 2021 by Justin Kan, the co-founder of Twitch (acquired by Amazon), alongside CTO Mike Angell and CPO David Wurtz. Robin Chan (Justin Kan's Goat Capital partner) joined as Head of Business Development. The platform's founding thesis, in Kan's words: 'Solana is the future of gaming.'
Unlike OpenSea or Magic Eden — general-purpose NFT marketplaces that list art, PFP, music, and gaming NFTs side-by-side — Fractal is gaming-centric only. Studios use Fractal's developer SDK and infrastructure to build in-game marketplaces, host game pre-sales (similar to a Kickstarter for blockchain games), and distribute their titles through Fractal's curated game directory and desktop launcher.
Fractal's value proposition for studios: developer integrations (drop-in SDK + NFT infrastructure), in-game marketplace infrastructure (white-label trading inside the game), pre-sale / mints that fund game development, and a curated discovery layer (the Fractal game directory, ranked by trending, genre, and platform tags). For players, Fractal provides a launcher app, genre filtering, and verified-studio NFT listings.
The Fractal game directory ranks titles like MEGAWEAPON, ev.io, BattleTabs, Mojo Melee (Planet Mojo), League of Kingdoms, Champions Ascension, Aether TCG, Rooniverse, Bladerite, Shrapnel, The Bornless, Mighty Action Heroes, and Derby Stars. Genres span Action, RPG, Shooters, Metaverse & Sandbox, Adventure, Strategy, Simulation, Racing, Trading card game, and Lifestyle.
Built on Solana for low gas fees and high throughput — Fractal emphasises that the blockchain choice enables listing at low cost (in contrast to Ethereum's higher listing costs that historically prevented spam on marketplaces). Kan's curation-first thesis: when fees and listing friction are eliminated on Solana, curation and verified-studio quality matter most.
