Overview

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Crypto.com Onchain: A Self-custodial Wallet from Crypto.com — Manage crypto on your terms — Take full control of your crypto and keys, with a non-custodial multi-chain wallet and a full suite of onchain services in one place. Crypto.com Onchain is the self-custodial wallet half of the broader Crypto.com product family, rebranded in 2024-2025 from the original 'Crypto.com DeFi Wallet' name to reflect the broader Web3 / onchain-services positioning beyond just DeFi.

Per the official Crypto.com FAQ page (July 2026): It supports 36 blockchains and 4,000+ tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cronos, Polygon, Litecoin and Dogecoin. The wallet supports full self-custody across 36 blockchains — one of the largest chain-coverage counts among wallet peers (compare MetaMask which supports ~14 EVM chains natively; Trust Wallet which supports 50+ chains; Phantom which supports Solana + Ethereum + Bitcoin + Sui + Aptos ~6 chains; Coinbase Wallet which supports ~8 chains natively via WalletConnect).

Per the additional official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026): Crypto.com's Onchain Wallet is a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet that puts you in complete control of your digital assets. Unlike traditional exchange wallets where a third party holds your private keys, Onchain Wallet generates and stores your private keys directly on your device, giving you full ownership and control over your cryptocurrencies. As a multi-chain hot wallet, Onchain Wallet supports interactions across multiple blockchain networks, making it easy to manage diverse crypto portfolios. The wallet functions as both a standalone mobile app AND as a browser extension, providing flexibility for both mobile and desktop users.

What sets Crypto.com Onchain Wallet apart as a decentralized wallet is its integration with Web3 decentralized applications (dApps), decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols — letting users participate in token swaps, yield farming, and NFT trading while maintaining control over their private keys. The wallet doesn't require a Crypto.com account to function — though having one can unlock additional features like fiat purchasing options within the wallet.

The Crypto.com Onchain wallet as a user reads it from the official homepage (July 2026):

  • All things onchain on your wallet — Embark on your onchain journey with an intuitive user experience: spot market opportunities, discover what's trending, keep up with the latest airdrops, and more.
  • Earn passive income with high returns — With 25+ tokens and flexible lock-up options, earning rewards on your assets is easier than ever.
  • Tap into hundreds of dapps — Explore and access the most popular dapps, farm airdrops on the latest protocols, buy NFTs you've been eyeing, and more — all from within your Wallet.
  • Store your tokens easily — Create or import a wallet, plus manage your tokens across multiple chains, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, and Cronos. Track your assets with past performance and real-time monitoring for each token.
  • Buy, swap, send, and more — Trade 1,000+ tokens across major chains, including Ethereum, Cronos, and Solana.
  • More ways to access, yours to choose — Connect seamlessly: easily connect your onchain wallet or hardware wallet to access Web3 projects, DeFi protocols, dapps, and more.
  • Access Crypto.com Onchain on all your devices — Chrome Extension + Mobile Wallet.

Per the official crypto.com/university crypto-wallets article (July 2026): Crypto.com Onchain is a user-custodied wallet where you are the custodian. This means you get full access and control of your crypto private keys. Unlike a centralized custodian on the Crypto.com App, you have complete control of your crypto when they are stored in the Crypto.com Wallet. You do not need a Crypto.com account to store, send and receive crypto in Crypto.com Onchain. The official Crypto.com page explicitly contrasts Onchain Wallet (self-custodial, user is custodian, no Crypto.com account needed) with the Crypto.com App (custodial, Crypto.com is custodian, requires Crypto.com account, easy exchange + fiat on/off-ramp + Visa card + Earn products). This self-custody-vs-custodial-distinction is the core differentiator of the Onchain Wallet within the Crypto.com product family.

The official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026) also notes that users can scan the QR code of the recovery phrase for your other wallets to import them even more quickly — Onchain Wallet supports importing via BIP-39 12/18/24-word recovery phrases (the standard wallet recovery phrase format) from MetaMask, Trust Wallet, or any other BIP-39-compatible wallet. This makes migration from existing wallets to Crypto.com Onchain trivial.

Use case: Crypto.com Onchain is the recommended choice for users wanting self-custody across 36 blockchains + integration with the broader Crypto.com ecosystem (Crypto.com App with fiat on/off-ramp + Crypto.com Visa Card with up to 5% CRO cashback + Crypto.com Earn for custodial staking + Cronos ecosystem chains — Cronos EVM, Cronos POS, Cronos zkEVM). For users already in the Crypto.com ecosystem, the Onchain Wallet is the natural self-custody extension — the wallet makes it easy to move assets between self-custody (Onchain) and custodial (Crypto.com App custody) based on the user's activity.

Features

Self-custodial — user is the custodian

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Crypto.com Onchain is a user-custodied wallet where you are the custodian. This means you get full access and control of your crypto private keys. The wallet generates and stores private keys directly on the user's device (in the iOS Keychain on iOS, Android Keystore on Android, browser local storage on Chrome Extension). Crypto.com (the company) never receives, sees, stores, or processes the user's private keys. The wallet's role is to locally sign transactions — when the user sends ETH, swaps USDC-for-CRO on VVS Finance, or interacts with a dApp via WalletConnect, the private keys never leave the user's device; only the signed transaction is broadcast to the chain. No Crypto.com account required.

Multi-chain support — 36 blockchains + 4,000+ tokens

Per the official Crypto.com FAQ (July 2026): It supports 36 blockchains and 4,000+ tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cronos, Polygon, Litecoin and Dogecoin. The 36-chain coverage is one of the broadest among wallet peers — covering both EVM chains (Ethereum mainnet, Cronos EVM, Cronos zkEVM, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Fantom, etc.) and non-EVM chains (Bitcoin, Solana, Cronos POS, Cosmos, Polkadot + other Cosmos-SDK chains + non-EVM-native-layer-1-chains). This eliminates the need for multiple wallet apps — Onchain Wallet manages all major blockchain networks from a single interface.

1,000+ token swaps across major chains

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Buy, swap, send, and more — Trade 1,000+ tokens across major chains, including Ethereum, Cronos, and Solana. The in-wallet swap aggregator uses DEX liquidity pools from multiple chains — for example VVS Finance on Cronos, Uniswap on Ethereum, Jupiter on Solana, PancakeSwap on BNB Chain — to give the user the best across-DEX execution price for any swap. The user picks the input + output assets, the wallet routes through the best path automatically.

Native staking — 25+ tokens + flexible lock-up options + up to 15.88% APY

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Earn passive income with high returns — With 25+ tokens and flexible lock-up options, earning rewards on your assets is easier than ever. Per the official Crypto.com staking page (July 2026): Crypto Staking — Crypto.com | Earn up to 15.88% per year by staking with us. Supported staking tokens include CRO (Cronos), ETH (Ethereum 2.0), DOT (Polkadot), ATOM (Cosmos), and 20+ more — staked via native validators or DeFi staking protocols accessed through the in-wallet UI. Lock-up options include flexible (no lockup), 1-month, 3-month lockup — and the user picks the appropriate rate-vs-liquidity tradeoff.

Tap into hundreds of dapps via in-wallet browser + WalletConnect

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Tap into hundreds of dapps — Explore and access the most popular dapps, farm airdrops on the latest protocols, buy NFTs you've been eyeing, and more — all from within your Wallet. The in-wallet dApp browser lets the user browse + connect to popular dApps across all 36 supported chains — popular dApps include Uniswap (Ethereum), VVS Finance (Cronos), Jupiter (Solana), Aave / Curve / Pendle (Ethereum), GMX / Camelot (Arbitrum), and more. The WalletConnect v2 standard is also supported — letting users connect external dApps on desktop (on a separate device) via QR-code connection.

NFT management — view / organize / share / display

Per the official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026): The wallet provides a dedicated NFT section where you can view, organize and share your digital collectibles across social media platforms with customizable displays. Supported NFT standards include Ethereum ERC-721 + ERC-1155 NFTs, plus Cronos POS chain NFTs + Cronos Beta chain NFTs (the two Cronos blockchain variants). The NFT-display UI includes social-sharing features (share across social media platforms with customizable displays). Users can buy NFTs directly through the integrated dApps in the dapp browser (OpenSea, Mintable, Cronos-native marketplaces, etc.).

Cronos ecosystem — three-chain support + deeper integration

Crypto.com maintains a deep three-chain Cronos ecosystem — and the Onchain Wallet is the officially-recommended wallet for all three Cronos chains. Per the official Cronos learn article (July 2026): The Cronos ecosystem includes three different chains: Cronos EVM, the leading Ethereum-compatible blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK; Cronos POS, a leading Cosmos chain for payments and NFTs; and Cronos zkEVM, a new high performance layer 2 network secured by Ethereum. The Onchain Wallet integrates with all three — supporting Cronos EVM (Ethereum-compatible Layer-1), Cronos POS (Cosmos-SDK native chain with payment + NFT focus), and Cronos zkEVM (the new Layer-2 with Ethereum-level settlement security via zero-knowledge proofs).

Hardware wallet pairing — Ledger X + OneKey + more

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Connect seamlessly — Easily connect your onchain wallet or hardware wallet to access Web3 projects, DeFi protocols, dapps, and more. The Onchain Wallet supports direct hardware-wallet pairing via Bluetooth / USB — with Ledger (Ledger Nano X, Ledger Nano S Plus, Ledger Flex, Ledger Stax) being the primary-supported hardware wallet family (per the official Ledger integration page Crypto.com DeFi Wallet — Compatible third-party Wallet). The pairing path lets users keep the private keys on the hardware device while using the Onchain Wallet mobile app as the signing-UI + transaction-broadcast layer.

Cross-device access — iOS + Android + Chrome Extension + Web

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Access Crypto.com Onchain on all your devices — Chrome Extension + Mobile Wallet. The Onchain Wallet is available on: (1) iOS App Store via the Crypto.com: Onchain Wallet app; (2) Android Google Play via the Crypto.com: Onchain Wallet app; (3) Chrome Web Store via the Crypto.com Onchain browser extension; (4) Web-based Crypto.com Onchain extension access. All four access points share the same recovery phrase — users can sync their wallet state across devices via the 12/18/24-word BIP-39 recovery phrase restore process.

Buy + swap + send + receive — full send-and-receive coverage

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Buy, swap, send, and more. Wallet supports: (1) Buy — purchase crypto directly in-wallet via the integrated fiat-on-ramp (requires linking to a Crypto.com account); (2) Swap — 1,000+ token swaps across chains via in-wallet DEX aggregator; (3) Send — send crypto to external wallet addresses; (4) Receive — display QR code + wallet address for receiving crypto. Plus the standard create-or-import-a-wallet flow on first setup (generate new wallet with new recovery phrase, OR import existing wallet via typing/scanning the 12/18/24-word BIP-39 seed phrase).

Track token performance — past + real-time monitoring

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Track your assets with past performance and real-time monitoring for each token. The wallet shows the user's portfolio breakdown (by chain, by token) with historical value graphs + real-time market price updates + real-time portfolio value. The portfolio tracking is integrated natively (no need for a separate portfolio-tracker app).

MiCA-prepared — under Crypto.com's regulatory umbrella

While the Onchain Wallet itself is a self-custodial software wallet (which is generally not-regulated-by-default in most jurisdictions — the user holds their own keys, no custody is involved), the wallet's issuer Crypto.com is operating under a multi-jurisdiction regulatory umbrella including: MAS Major Payment Institution license (Singapore), FinCEN MSB registration (US), MiCA preparation + pre-license operation (EU), FCA registration (UK), ASIC registration (Australia), Ontario Securities Commission registration (Canada), and 40+ more jurisdictions per Crypto.com's published license-list. This institutional regulatory posture adds credibility — when users on-ramp via the integrated Crypto.com App fiat-options (inside the wallet), the on-ramp goes through Crypto.com's regulated-fiat-on-ramp-path-banks.

Biometric authentication + 2FA + passcode protection

Per the official crypto.com/university non-custodial-wallets article (July 2026): Crypto.com Onchain, which includes features like biometric authentication, two-factor authentication (2FA), and optional passcode protection. Three security-feature layers: (1) Biometric — Face ID on iOS + fingerprint on Android unlocks the wallet; (2) 2FA — Time-based-one-time-password via Google Authenticator for sensitive actions (sending crypto, exporting recovery phrase, swapping above a threshold); (3) Passcode — Numeric passcode on app launch fallback. These three layers protect the wallet decryption locally — the user-controls-keys are still self-custodial-at-the-key-layer.

Security

Self-custodial wallet — keys stored on the user's device

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Crypto.com Onchain is a user-custodied wallet where you are the custodian. This means you get full access and control of your crypto private keys. Wallet generates and stores private keys directly on the user's device — in the iOS Keychain on iOS, Android Keystore on Android, browser local storage on the Chrome Extension. Crypto.com (the company) never receives, sees, or stores the user's wallet private keys at any point. The wallet's role is to locally-sign transactions — when the user sends or swaps crypto, the private keys never leave the user's device; only the signed transaction is sent to the chain. This is the standard self-custodial-with-on-device-key-storage pattern shared with MetaMask, Phantom, Trust Wallet, and Coinbase Wallet.

No Crypto.com account required

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): You do not need a Crypto.com account to store, send and receive crypto in Crypto.com Onchain. This means the wallet works fully self-contained for self-custodial-storage, send, and receive crypto. Crypto.com account connection is OPTIONAL and only required for the integrated fiat-on-ramp-via-the-Crypto.com-App feature. The user can start using Onchain Wallet immediately without providing personal information, undergoing identity verification (KYC), or creating a centralized-service-account — aligning with cryptocurrency's core principle of financial sovereignty and privacy.

BIP-39 12/18/24-word recovery phrase — the user's recovery mechanism

Per the official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026): It usually consists of 12/18/24 randomly generated words that are created when you first set up a wallet. The standard BIP-39 recovery phrase is generated locally on the device at first wallet setup. The user writes down the recovery phrase on paper (offline storage recommended). The same recovery phrase can be used to restore the wallet on any compatible BIP-39-wallet — including MetaMask, Trust Wallet, or another Crypto.com Onchain instance. Per the official page: Alternatively, you can scan the QR code of the recovery phrase for your other wallets to import them even more quickly — supporting both manual-word-entry and QR-code-based wallet-import flows.

Three security layers — biometric + 2FA + passcode

Per the official crypto.com/university non-custodial-wallets article (July 2026): Crypto.com Onchain, which includes features like biometric authentication, two-factor authentication (2FA), and optional passcode protection. Three layered security features protecting the wallet locally: (1) Biometric authentication — Face ID on iOS + fingerprint on Android unlock the wallet on startup; (2) Two-Factor Authentication — TOTP via Google Authenticator required for sensitive actions (sending crypto above a threshold, exporting the recovery phrase, deleting the wallet); (3) Passcode protection — numeric passcode fallback for backup-and-biometric-failed scenarios. These three layers protect the wallet-UI locally — meaning even if someone steals the user's phone, the wallet content remains protected by the multi-layer-challenge.

Hardware wallet pairing — Ledger X + OneKey Pro + Trezor Safe 5 + Keystone 3 Pro

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Connect seamlessly — Easily connect your onchain wallet or hardware wallet to access Web3 projects, DeFi protocols, dapps, and more. The Onchain Wallet has historically supported Ledger hardware wallets natively (Ledger Nano X, Ledger Nano S Plus, Ledger Flex, Ledger Stax) per the official Ledger integration page Crypto.com DeFi Wallet — Compatible third-party Wallet — which shows the Ledger X device pairing diagram + the supported-assets list (ETH, DOT, MATIC/POL, OP, BNB, ERC-20 all support Ledger-paired signing). The pairing works over Bluetooth on Ledger Nano X or via direct USB-cable on other Ledger models. OneKey Pro and Trezor Safe 5 hardware wallets are also supported via the WalletConnect-standard pairing path. For high-value long-term holdings above $50k, hardware-wallet pairing is the recommended security posture.

Crypto.com institutional regulatory posture

While the Onchain Wallet itself is self-custodial (and thus not directly regulated-by-default in most jurisdictions), the wallet's issuer Crypto.com operates under a multi-jurisdictional regulatory umbrella including: (1) MAS Major Payment Institution license (Singapore — where Crypto.com is headquartered); (2) FinCEN MSB registration (US — Money Services Business); (3) MiCA preparation (EU — Markets in Crypto-assets regulation, the comprehensive EU crypto framework effective December 2024); (4) FCA registration (UK Financial Conduct Authority — for cryptoasset operations); (5) ASIC registration (Australian Securities and Investments Commission); (6) Ontario Securities Commission registration (Canada); (7) Class 3 Virtual Asset Service Provider registration (Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Bahrain, Dubai VARA, France AMF, South Korea, Italy, etc.). This 40+-jurisdiction global-regulatory-coverage is among the strongest institutional postures among global exchanges — and adds credibility to the wallet's on-ramp / off-ramp integration with the Crypto.com App's fiat-options.

No-rehypothecation at the wallet layer

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain architecture description (July 2026): The Onchain Wallet is self-custodial — the user's crypto assets stay in the user's own on-chain address (derived from the user's private keys on the user's device). Crypto.com does not store user balances from the Onchain Wallet — there is no on-Crypto.com-side-internal-ledger-balance used by Onchain Wallet users. The user is the only custodian-directly-with-on-chain-keys. This means no-rehypothecation-at-the-wallet-layer — rehypothecation is a risk only on the Crypto.com App (custodial) side, not on the Onchain Wallet (self-custodial) side.

Privacy — no centralized-server data collection at the wallet layer

Per the official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026): Your transaction history and wallet balances aren't stored on centralized servers, reducing the risk of large scale data breaches. Since private keys remain on your device, you're not vulnerable to exchange hacks. The wallet doesn't send user balances or transaction history to Crypto.com's centralized servers — those stay on-chain and are read directly from the blockchain by the wallet app. The user's privacy is preserved — Crypto.com doesn't see the user's holdings or transactions at the wallet layer (only when the user uses the optional Crypto.com App integration for fiat-on-ramp / cross-custody-transfer).

Smart-contract risk on integrated DeFi protocols

The Onchain Wallet integrates with hundreds of third-party DeFi protocols via the in-wallet dapp browser + WalletConnect — so the user is exposed to the smart-contract-risk of any protocol they interact with. Per the official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026): You can participate in yield farming, provide liquidity to decentralized exchanges, stake tokens for rewards, trade NFTs or interact with thousands of decentralized applications. This level of access is typically impossible with traditional custodial wallets. The smart-contract risk on these third-party protocols is user-borne — Crypto.com does not provide any loss-protection-guarantee for user interactions with third-party DeFi protocols accessed through the Onchain Wallet dapp browser.

Hot-wallet tradeoffs — keys on the user's device are still vulnerable

The Onchain Wallet is a hot wallet — the private keys are stored in the iOS Keychain / Android Keystore / browser local storage. While the iOS Keychain + Android Keystore use hardware-isolated secure-enclave storage on the user's device, the keys are still accessible to the wallet-app session — and any malware on the user's device (especially a compromised-jailbroken-iOS or a malicious-Android-app-with-keylogger) could potentially extract the keys. For users holding higher balances (long-term-cold-storage holdings above $50k), Crypto.com recommends pairing Onchain Wallet with a Ledger / OneKey Pro / Trezor Safe 5 / Keystone 3 Pro hardware wallet (these wallets are supported natively per the official Ledger integration page).

Fees & Pricing

Crypto.com Onchain Wallet is free to download

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): The wallet apps on iOS App Store, Google Play, and Chrome Web Store are free to download. No subscription, no monthly fee, no per-wallet fee, no AUM fee on wallet balances, no paywall on any wallet feature. The wallet side is fully free.

In-wallet swaps — depending on the underlying DEX routing

The in-wallet swap aggregator routes through DEXs — Uniswap, VVS Finance, Jupiter, PancakeSwap, etc. — and the user pays: (1) the network's gas fee (paid to chain validators, not Crypto.com); (2) the underlying DEX liquidity pool fee (typically 0.05-0.30% per swap on most AMMs). Crypto.com's own additional swap-aggregator-fee on top is typically minimal-or-zero (the official page doesn't disclose a specific in-wallet swap-aggregator-fee — pricing relies on the underlying DEX routing, plus integration fees with swap aggregators). Compare to MetaMask 0.875% swap fee + Coinbase Wallet 0.50% swap fee — Crypto.com Onchain's swap fee structure positions itself as competitively-low.

Network gas fees — paid to the chain, not Crypto.com

Gas fees per transaction are paid to the chain validators — Ethereum L1 mainnet $1-50 per transaction; Ethereum L2s (Optimism, Arbitrum, Base) $0.10-1.00; Cronos EVM $0.01-0.10; Solana $0.001; Cosmos + Cronos POS $0.01; Polygon $0.01-0.10. The Onchain Wallet supports gas-abstraction-via-the-in-wallet-UI-experience where the user can see the gas-fee preview before confirming the transaction. For high-frequency-traders, Solana + Cronos + Polygon + Cosmos + L2 chains have very-low-fees; EVM-L1-Ethereum has the highest fees.

Staking rewards — up to 15.88% APY

Per the official Crypto.com staking page (July 2026): Crypto Staking — Crypto.com | Earn up to 15.88% per year by staking with us. Flexible-stake options (no lockup) — lower APY; 1-month / 3-month lockups — higher APY. Crypto.com doesn't charge a separate staking-fee (the validator-commission is embedded inside the displayed-APY — e.g., a 10% APY-after-validator-commission on CRO means the user receives 10% net after-the-validator's-cut). Staking rewards are auto-credited to the user's wallet balance.

Fiat-on-ramp fees (when using Crypto.com App integration)

When the user uses the integrated fiat-on-ramp via Crypto.com App (requires a Crypto.com account), the on-ramp fees are typically 2.99% for credit-card purchases or lower for bank-ACH + bank-wire-purchases (typically under 1%). These fees are charged by the Crypto.com App / payment-processor on the fiat-on-ramp side, not by the Onchain Wallet itself.

NFT trading fees

When trading NFTs via the integrated NFT marketplaces (OpenSea, Cronos-native marketplaces accessed through the in-wallet dapp browser), the user pays: (1) The NFT marketplace's fee (typically 2.5% on OpenSea + similar marketplaces); (2) The marketplace's gas fees (paid to the chain the NFT is on); (3) The marketplace's creator-royalties on secondary sales (typically 5-10% on Ethereum ERC-721 + ERC-1155 NFTs, varying by collection). Crypto.com Onchain does not charge an additional in-wallet-NFT-trading-fee on top of the underlying marketplace fees.

dApp interaction fees — full underlying-protocol fees

When the user interacts with third-party DeFi protocols (lending on Aave, providing liquidity on Uniswap, staking on Lido, etc.) via the in-wallet browser, the user pays the underlying-protocol-fee — Aave's borrow-rate, Uniswap's swap fee, Lido's 10% staking-commission-on-rewards. Crypto.com Onchain does not add any additional in-wallet-fee-on-top-of-the-protocol-fee.

Supported Chains

Per the official Crypto.com FAQ (July 2026): It supports 36 blockchains and 4,000+ tokens. The 36-blockchain coverage is one of the broadest in the wallet category — the user can manage assets across 36 chains from a single wallet address (multi-chain-wallet-derivation-from-a-single-recovery-phrase).

Major blockchains supported

  • Bitcoin (BTC) — native Bitcoin self-custody support (BC-32 + Traditional-P2PKH + P2SH-P2WPKH-with-Bech32-addresses)
  • Ethereum (ETH mainnet) — full ERC-20 token + ERC-721 + ERC-1155 NFT support. Connects to all major Ethereum dApps via WalletConnect v2.
  • Solana (SPL) — full SPL token + Solana NFT + Solana dApp support (Jupiter aggregator, Magic Eden, Raydium, Orca, Drift Protocol, Phoenix, Jito staking, etc.)
  • Cronos EVM — Crypto.com's flagship Ethereum-compatible Layer-1 built on the Cosmos SDK. Full Cronos-ecosystem-native-DApps support: VVS Finance (DEX), Cronos ID (identity), Tectonic (lending), etc.
  • Cronos POS — Crypto.com's Cosmos-SDK chain for payments + NFTs. Natively supports Cronos POS NFTs.
  • Cronos zkEVM — Crypto.com's newest Layer-2 secured by Ethereum via zero-knowledge proofs. Lower fees + Ethereum-level settlement security.
  • Polygon (MATIC/POL) — full EVM-L2-support (per the official Crypto.com Help article "Send and receive Polygon (MATIC)")
  • Litecoin (LTC) — native LTC self-custody support
  • Dogecoin (DOGE) — native Bitcoin-fork-UTXO-style-DOGE-self-custody support
  • Cosmos (ATOM) — Cosmos-SDK chain support + IBC-transfer-support + staking-via-native-validator
  • Polkadot (DOT) — Polkadot-Relay-Chain support + DOT-staking
  • BNB Smart Chain (BNB) — Binance Smart Chain EVM support + PancakeSwap integration
  • Optimism (OP) — Ethereum Layer-2 support
  • Arbitrum One — Ethereum Layer-2 support (largest L2 by TVL)
  • Avalanche C-Chain (AVAX) — Avalanche Layer-1 EVM support
  • Base (Coinbase L2) — Coinbase's L2 support
  • Fantom (FTM) — Layer-1 support
  • Plus 18+ more chains in the 36-chain total (including Sui, Aptos, Tron, Cardano, XRP, EOS, Stellar, Algorand, Tezos, etc. — full visible within the wallet UI)

dApp connectivity + Web3 connection

Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): Connect seamlessly — Easily connect your onchain wallet or hardware wallet to access Web3 projects, DeFi protocols, dapps, and more.

  • In-wallet dApp browser — hundreds of curated dApps accessible directly in the wallet UI (no need to have a separate dApp-browser-tab on a desktop browser)
  • WalletConnect v2 — the standard universal connection protocol — lets the user connect the Onchain Wallet to any WalletConnect-compatible dApp running on a desktop browser. Scan the QR-code-with-the-mobile-wallet-to-pair-with-the-desktop-dApp.
  • Hardware wallet pairing — Ledger X / S Plus / Flex / Stax (Bluetooth-direct or USB-direct) + OneKey Pro / Trezor Safe 5 / Keystone 3 Pro (via WalletConnect-standard)

Multi-chain recovery — one recovery phrase for all 36 chains

Per the official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026): 12/18/24 randomly generated words that are created when you first set up a wallet. The recovery phrase generates the multi-chain wallet addresses — one-for-each-supported-chain — using the standard BIP-44 derivation paths. The same recovery phrase can be used to restore the same multi-chain-wallet-on-any-other-BIP-44-compatible-wallet — including Trust Wallet, Exodus, Atomic Wallet, etc. This makes the user's recovery-phrase-the-master-key-for-all-their-multi-chain-holdings.

Cronos ecosystem deep integration

Crypto.com has uniquely positioned the Onchain Wallet as the primary-recommended wallet for all three Cronos chains (Cronos EVM, Cronos POS, Cronos zkEVM). The wallet ships with the deepest-VVS-Finance-DEX-integration, the deepest-Cronos-staking-support, and the deepest-Cronos-NFT-marketplace-integration among the wallets-in-our-directory. For Cronos-focused-users, this is the official-ecosystem-wallet.

NFT standards supported

Per the official Crypto.com Learn page (July 2026): It supports Ethereum (ERC-721/1155), Cronos POS and Cronos Beta NFTs. Future NFT standards (RMRK on Polkadot, BRC-20 on Bitcoin, Runes on Bitcoin, SPL-NFTs on Solana) may be added in future wallet releases.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Self-custodial — user is the custodian. Per the official crypto.com/us/onchain (July 2026): 'Crypto.com Onchain is a user-custodied wallet where you are the custodian. This means you get full access and control of your crypto private keys.' Private keys stored on the user's device only (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore / browser local storage). Crypto.com never sees or stores the private keys.
  • 36 blockchains supported — one of the broadest multi-chain coverage in the wallet category. Includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cronos EVM, Cronos POS, Cronos zkEVM, Polygon, BNB Chain, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Cosmos, Polkadot, Optimism, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Fantom, Sui, Aptos, Tron, Cardano, XRP, EOS, Stellar, Algorand, Tezos, and 10+ more chains.
  • 4,000+ tokens supported natively — the broadest token-coverage among major multi-chain wallets (compare MetaMask with ~ERC-20 coverage + ~14 native chains; Phantom with Solana + Ethereum + few non-EVM chains; Coinbase Wallet with ~8 chains + ERC-20 + few non-EVM).
  • 1,000+ token in-wallet swaps — the in-wallet DEX aggregator routes through Uniswap, VVS Finance, Jupiter, PancakeSwap, and other major DEXs to give best execution price across the supported chains.
  • 25+ tokens supported for native staking — up to 15.88% APY on locked or flexible staking. Supports CRO, ETH, DOT, ATOM, SOL, BNB, ADA, and 18+ more tokens with validator + DeFi staking options.
  • Hundreds of integrated dApps via in-wallet browser + WalletConnect v2 — popular dApps across DeFi (Aave, Uniswap, Curve, Pendle, GMX, Camelot, VVS Finance, Cronos-native DApps) + NFT marketplaces (OpenSea, Magic Eden, Cronos-native marketplaces) + lending + yield-farming protocols.
  • Three-layer security: biometric (Face ID on iOS + fingerprint on Android) + 2FA (TOTP via Google Authenticator) + passcode protection — best-in-class in-wallet security at the UI-layer.
  • Native Ledger hardware wallet pairing — supports Ledger Nano X, Ledger Nano S Plus, Ledger Flex, Ledger Stax (per the official Ledger-Crypto.com integration page). Pairing via Bluetooth on Nano X + via USB cable on other Ledger models. Plus WalletConnect-standard pairing for OneKey Pro / Trezor Safe 5 / Keystone 3 Pro.
  • Available on all major platforms — iOS App Store (Crypto.com: Onchain Wallet app) + Android Google Play + Chrome Web Store (Crypto.com Onchain browser extension) — makes for the broadest cross-platform availability among the wallets in our directory.
  • BIP-39 12/18/24-word recovery phrase migrations — users can import existing wallet from MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Phantom, or any other BIP-39-compatible wallet via the 12/18/24-word seed phrase OR by scanning the recovery-phrase QR code.
  • NFT management across Ethereum ERC-721 + ERC-1155 + Cronos POS + Cronos Beta NFTs. The wallet provides a dedicated NFT section where you can view, organize, and share your digital collectibles across social media platforms with customizable displays.
  • No Crypto.com account required to use the wallet — per the official Crypto.com Learn page: 'You do not need a Crypto.com account to store, send and receive crypto in Crypto.com Onchain.' User can start using the wallet immediately without providing personal information or undergoing identity verification. The Crypto.com account integration is optional and only needed for the integrated fiat-on-ramp feature.
  • Cronos ecosystem deep integration — Crypto.com Onchain is the primary-recommended wallet for all three Cronos chains: Cronos EVM (Cosmos-SDK + Ethereum-compatible Layer-1), Cronos POS (Cosmos chain for payments + NFTs), Cronos zkEVM (high-performance Layer-2 secured by Ethereum via zero-knowledge proofs). For Cronos-focused users, Onchain is the official ecosystem wallet.
  • Crypto.com's institutional regulatory umbrella — Crypto.com operates under MAS Major Payment Institution license (Singapore), FinCEN MSB registration (US), MiCA preparation (EU), FCA registration (UK), ASIC (Australia), Ontario Securities Commission (Canada), and 40+ more jurisdictions globally. This adds credibility to the wallet's on-ramp / off-ramp integration.
  • Rebranded from 'Crypto.com DeFi Wallet' — the new brand reflects the broader Web3 / onchain-services positioning beyond just DeFi (covering NFTs, staking, dApps, payments, and the broader onchain ecosystem). The rebrand history shows the wallet has been continuously maintained and updated since its 2020 launch as DeFi Wallet.
  • Real-time portfolio tracking included — the wallet natively integrates portfolio-value-graphs + token-by-token-price-charts + on-chain-balance-and-recent-activity-log. Eliminates the need for a separate portfolio-tracker app.

Cons

  • Closed-source wallet — most of the wallet code is not open-source on GitHub (unlike MetaMask which is open-source / Backpack Wallet which is partly open-source / Trust Wallet which is open-source). For users prioritizing community-source-code-auditability, MetaMask or Trust Wallet remain more-transparent wallet options.
  • Crypto.com Onchain is a hot wallet — the keys live on the user's device (in the iOS Keychain, Android Keystore, or browser local storage) — and any compromised-phone-malware could potentially extract the keys. For high-value long-term holdings above $50k, the user should pair Onchain Wallet with a Ledger / OneKey Pro / Trezor Safe 5 / Keystone 3 Pro hardware wallet.
  • In-wallet swap aggregator fees are not explicitly disclosed — the official Onchain page says 'Trade 1,000+ tokens' but doesn't disclose the specific in-wallet-swap-aggregator-fee or routing-policy. The user pays the underlying DEX liquidity pool fees (typically 0.05-0.30% per swap) + the network gas fees + any-not-disclosed Crypto.com-aggregator-fee-via-the-in-wallet-routing.
  • Fiat-on-ramp requires a Crypto.com account — to buy crypto directly within the Onchain Wallet, the user must link their Crypto.com account and complete KYC. The on-ramp fees are typically 2.99% for credit-card purchases (vs Coinbase-Wallet's 3.99% on debit-card). For users prioritizing no-KYC in-wallet purchases, Trust Wallet and Coinbase Wallet offer alternative fiat-on-ramp-paths-via-payments-processors-like-MoonPay / Simplex with varying-fee-profile.
  • Smart-contract risk on integrated DeFi protocols — the user-to-third-party-DeFi-protocol-interactions carry smart-contract-risk-borne-by-the-user. Crypto.com does not provide any loss-protection-guarantee for user interactions with third-party DeFi protocols accessed through the Onchain Wallet dapp browser. Per the Crypto.com Learn page: 'This level of access is typically impossible with traditional custodial wallets.' — with great access comes great personal-integration-risk.
  • Onchain Wallet is closed-source-with-no-public-key-derivation-code-audit visible — users wanting the deepest code audit + community-peer-review should consider MetaMask (open-source-on-GitHub with public-audit-history-by-Trail-of-Bits) instead.
  • Crypto.com as a parent company has had historical regulatory scrutiny — including a 2022 announcement that Crypto.com had misled users about its UK FCA registration status (the FCA press release no-blame-post-rebrand-context); and various global-regulatory-pressures-during-2022-FTX-collapse-cycle (though Crypto.com survived FTX-collapse-cycle-without-insolvency-or-withdrawal-freezes, Kris Marszalek published a public proof-of-reserves transparency report). The historical-scrutiny should be weighed-vs-continued-operational-status-and-current-regulatory-coverage-in-2026.
  • Onchain Wallet does not open-source the Cronos-specific wallets-routing logic — if a user prefers alternative-EVM-L2s-to-Cronos-zkEVM (e.g., Coinbase's Base, Arbitrum, Optimism), the Onchain Wallet supports them all — but the deeper DEX-routing-for-Cronos-vs-Ethereum-L2s-routing preferences are not-publicly-documented.
  • Wallet does not currently offer advanced DeFi-extras like hardware-wallet-multisig 2-of-3 or biometric-DAO voting — for institutional-grade multi-sig-wallet-needs, users should consider Safe (formerly Gnosis Safe) or Squads (Solana multisig) instead.
  • Wallet's Crypto.com-ecosystem-integration-bias toward Cronos — the wallet is built by Crypto.com with strong Cronos-ecosystem focus. While it supports 36 chains, the in-wallet-UI-routing-routing for Cronos-native dApps is the most-curated. Users wanting a native-Ethereum-chain-preferring-wallet may prefer MetaMask; users wanting a native-Solana-chain-preferring-wallet may prefer Phantom.
  • Backpack-Wallet-style wallet-and-exchange-integration is NOT offered by Onchain Wallet — unlike Backpack Wallet (which has direct integration with Backpack Exchange), the Onchain Wallet does not integrate-closely-with-Crypto.com's-centralized-custodial-Exchange. To move assets between Onchain Wallet (self-custody) and Crypto.com App (custodial), the user does a standard on-chain-transfer (typical ETH gas fee + confirm-minutes) — not an instant internal-on-the-platform-transfer-via-wallet-exchange-hand-off.
  • The rebranding history (DeFi Wallet then Onchain Wallet in 2024-2025) — some older documentation, third-party-integrations, and user-tutorials may still reference the old 'DeFi Wallet' name rather than the new 'Onchain Wallet' brand. Users searching-for-tutorials-may-need-to-use-both-names.

All 36 chains are managed from a single wallet address derived from the BIP-44 multi-chain derivation-path on the user's recovery phrase. The user can manage diverse crypto portfolios across 36 chains — Bitcoin + Ethereum + Solana + Cronos (EVM/POS/zkEVM) + Polygon + BNB Chain + Optimism + Arbitrum + Cosmos + Polkadot + Litecoin + Dogecoin + Avalanche + Base + 20+ more chains.

What staking options does Crypto.com Onchain Wallet offer?

Is Crypto.com Onchain Wallet safe?

Yes — the wallet uses self-custodial architecture with three-layer security at the UI-layer: biometric authentication (Face ID on iOS + fingerprint on Android), two-factor authentication (TIMED-based-one-time-password via Google Authenticator for sensitive actions), and optional passcode protection. Private keys are stored on the user's device in hardware-isolated secure-enclave storage (iOS Keychain + Android Keystore). Crypto.com does not see or store private keys. Wallet does not rehypothecate user funds. For high-value-long-term holdings above $50k, pair Onchain Wallet with a Ledger / OneKey Pro / Trezor Safe 5 / Keystone 3 Pro hardware wallet for the strongest security posture.

(2) Crypto.com Onchain integrates with the broader Crypto.com ecosystem (Crypto.com App, Visa Card, Earn, Cronos chain); MetaMask has its own MetaMask Swaps DEX aggregator + MetaMask Snaps extensions + MetaMask institutional-data-product-line. (3) Crypto.com Onchain offers 25+ tokens for native staking up to 15.88% APY; MetaMask does not have native staking (it routes to Lido / Rocket Pool via in-wallet swaps + third-party-staking). (4) Crypto.com Onchain is closed-source; MetaMask is open-source with public-audit-history-by-Trail-of-Bits. (5) Crypto.com Onchain has 3-layer security (biometric + 2FA + passcode); MetaMask has biometric + passcode (no native 2FA integrated). Cronos is Crypto.com's blockchain ecosystem. CRO is the primary native token on the Cronos EVM chain — used for gas, staking, governance, and the Crypto.com Visa Card cashback rewards. Crypto.com Onchain Wallet is the primary-recommended wallet for all three Cronos chains.
