Aave Pay Module is the on-chain payment functionality associated with Aave, a leading decentralized lending and borrowing protocol founded in 2020, headquartered in Switzerland. Aave enables users to lend and borrow cryptocurrencies through liquidity pools governed by smart contracts, earning interest on deposits and borrowing against collateral.
The “Pay” aspect refers to Aave’s on-chain settlement infrastructure and its flash loan capability — a unique DeFi feature allowing atomic, no-collateral borrowing within a single transaction, as long as the borrowed amount is returned by the end of the transaction. This enables complex, atomic payment flows including arbitrage, refinancing and instant settlement that are not possible with traditional payment rails.
Aave is governed by the AAVE token holder community through the Aave DAO. As of August 2026, Aave is one of the largest DeFi lending protocols by total value locked (TVL), operating across multiple chains including Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism and Avalanche. It is important to note that Aave is a DeFi lending protocol, not a merchant payment gateway — its inclusion in a payment gateway directory reflects its on-chain settlement and flash-loan infrastructure.
Best for: Web3-native users and dApps that need DeFi lending, borrowing or flash-loan-based atomic payment flows. Not suitable for merchant payment processing.
